Pumpkin carving has returned to the Disneyland Hotel. On Tuesday, Doug Marsh made his debut at the Disneyland Hotel for a series of appearances where he turns pumpkins into beautiful pieces of Disney-inspired art. The carving is taking place behind the Fantasy Tower, where a station is set up that looks like it is from the grounds of the Haunted Mansion.
According to a sign next to Doug, he will be carving pumpkins on the following dates:
- October 13 – 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
- October 15 – 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
- October 20 – 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM
- October 22 – 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
- October 27 – 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
- October 29 – 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
- October 31 – 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
The sign also shares information about Doug Marsh. It says:
Dough Marsh has spent the better part of his life as a designer and artist, in a wide variety of media. He holds and MFA in Theater Design from the University of Oklahoma. Originally from Oregon, he has lived in California since 1990. He has worked all over the country, on projects as diverse as television and state production, museum galleries, trade shows, and specialty graphics including advertising design. Doug began creating elaborately carved pumpkins after taking a class over 25 years. A long time Disney fan, Doug began collection Disneyland ephemera while in high school. The interest has led, since 2001, to a side avocation as an internet content provider. He serves as the President of an Orange County based club of follow Disney fans, as well as a member of the Board of the Carolwood Foundation, which is dedicated to Walt Disney’s railroad legacy. Always happy to share his time and talents with others, Doug is listed among the contributors to several books, including Walt Disney’s Trains, The Happiest Place on Earth, Mouse Tracks: The Story of Walt Disney Records, Wishing on a Star: The life of Eddie Caroll, and Tinker Bell Talks.
There is also a notice that things could change. With the recent rain around Southern California, it would be unsurprising if inclement weather led to the movement or cancellation of the pumpkin carving offering. Friends of Daps Magic, Mike and Matt, stopped by the Disneyland Hotel on Tuesday and took the following photos and video of Doug as he carved the afternoon away. Check out his incredible work below.

As can be seen in the video and photos, Doug is more than happy to show his creation as he works on it. He is also happy to explain what he is doing and how that brings these beautiful pieces of pumpkin art to life. With his many years of experience with carving pumpkins, he is able to create magic in front of guests’ eyes while also chatting about the subject matter, stories, and more. This really adds a lot of fun to the experience of watching pumpkins being carved.
The pumpkin carving at the Disneyland Hotel is one of many fun offerings being offered during Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort. This includes entertainment, decorations, merchandise, food offerings, Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party (sold out), and more. Videos of Daps Magic’s coverage can be seen below, with more added regularly.
