Spaceship Earth has found its leads for the pilot that is being made for Disney+. Deadline is reporting that Catherine Laga’aia and Deacon Phillippe are set to be the stars for the pilot of Spaceship Earth on Disney+. This series is inspired by the EPCOT attraction of the same name was announced in August.
Catherine Laga’aia recently starred in the title role of Disney’s live-action Moana. Deacon Phillippe appeared in Brother Save Us. At this point, the details about what the characters that these two will portray are unknown. In fact, very little is known about this potential series, as it is very early in the process. Disney+ has revealed a logline for the series, however:
When a mission to avert an imminent global cataclysm goes awry, a small band of teenagers from Earth’s past and future must join forces to confront a threat as vast and mysterious as time itself.
Jason Fuchs (IT: Welcome to Derry) and Michael Waldron (Loki) wrote the pilot for Spaceship Earth. It will be directed by and executive produced by Lee Toland Krieger (You, Riverdale, Shadow & Bone). Jason Fuchs will be the showrunner and executive producer via Five Ten Productions. Michael Waldon will also be executive producing under his Anomaly Pictures banner. Adam Fishbach (Love, Victor, The Other Black Girl) is also an executive producer. Adam Fasullo of Anomaly Pictures is also an executive producer. 20th Television will produce, with both Anomaly and Fishbach under overall deals.
The casting of these two actors is a significant step toward a potential series for Spaceship Earth. However, it will still have to make a pilot and get it approved before being greenlit. Fans of EPCOT and this beloved attraction will be closely watching this pilot and potential series that follows progress.
