Anyone who lived through the original run of Glee undoubtedly remembers what a phenomenon it was. This show about a high school show choir ran from 2009 to 2015. During that time, these high school students from Lima, Ohio, navigated the highs and lows of class and beyond. This saw the show tackling some pretty big issues while accompanying them with very well-known tunes.
For the last decade, there has been a lot of chatter about this musical drama series returning. Now, it is happening. Disney has greenlit a reboot of Glee for Disney+ and Hulu. This will introduce a whole new generation to Glee. This comes as the original series continues to remain popular today. On Spotify, there are 4.1 million monthly listeners!

The original cast included Lea Michelle, Cory Monteith, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Amber Riley, Naya Rivera, Heather Morris, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Harry Shum Jr., Chord Overstreet, Mark Salling, and others. Details about this reboot are very limited. What is known is that the series will be produced by 20th Television and then air on Disney+ and Hulu.
Show creator Ryan Murphy hasn’t said much about the show either. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, he said, “I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members.” He also confirmed that he’d just written a reboot script with collaborators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan during the interview. “It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea.”
One cast member who has expressed interest in returning is Lea Michelle. She told E! News, “I love ‘Glee.’ I will always love ‘Glee.’ I love Ryan Murphy. It just holds such a special place in my heart for me… I will follow Ryan wherever he goes.”
The news of the return of Glee is happy news for fans, but with a bittersweet note as well. Three cast members have died from the original show. One died by drowning. Another died due to an overdose. The last death was due to suicide. These deaths hit cast, crew, and fans hard when they happened, some during the run of the show.
