Dolly Parton was a person who used her influence for good. After her passing, her influence is still being used for good. Today it was announced that 9 to 5, the workplace comedy she starred in with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, is returning to theaters for a special weeklong theatrical run. This will begin on October 9, 2026. The film has been newly restored, and tickets are on sale now. Disney shared that it will donate net proceeds from each U.S. ticket purchase to The Dollywood Foundation to support its flagship program, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
This theatrical re-release of 9 to 5 was announced on the new “Give Like Dolly Day.” This is a new celebration that encourages the world to make a difference in a child’s life and honor Parton’s lifelong mission to inspire children to “Dream More, Learn More, Care More and Be More.” “Give Like Dolly Day” is observed annually on 9/25. This date was chosen as an homage to the title of the film.

In “9 to 5,” a group of female office workers – the all-knowing manager who trained the boss but can’t get promoted (Lily Tomlin), a befuddled newcomer (Jane Fonda) and an alluring personal secretary everyone presumes is having an affair (Dolly Parton) – all band together to seek revenge on the man who is making their lives miserable. Directed by Colin Higgins and produced by Bruce Gilbert from a screenplay by Higgins and Patricia Resnick, “9 to 5” received an Academy Award® nomination for the hit title song written and performed by Dolly Parton.
