Disney Cruise Line Accelerates Expansion of Fleet

Disney Cruise Line is accelerating how quickly it expands its fleet. During an earnings call this week, Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro revealed a new timeline for the arrival of new ships to the Disney fleet. When the expanded fleet of 13 ships was announced in 2024, the original plan was for them all to be joining the fleet by 2031. The new timeline has this accomplished a year earlier.

The New Plan

The original plan had new ships arriving in 2027, 2029, 2030, and 2031. The new timeline sees the Disney Believe arriving in late 2027. Its reveal will be in October. Next will be another Wish-class ship that will be the first Disney Cruise Line Japan ship in 2029. The Oriental Land Company revealed details about this ship recently.

2029 will also see a new ship joining the Disney Cruise Line fleet that will be the first of a new, smaller class of ship than the Wish class. This class of ship will be somewhere in size between the Magic and Dream class of ship. There will be two more ships of the same class. One will arrive in late 2029, and the other will join the fleet in 2030. These new ships will be built at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Walt Disney Imagineering will design each of these ships, which will be packed full of magical experiences.

The Expanded Fleet

By 2030, the fleet will now include 13 ships. This includes five ships already a part of the fleet when the announcement was made in 2024. These ships were the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Wish. Already, three more ships have joined the fleet. They include the Disney Treasure, Disney Destiny, and Disney Adventure. At this time, the only ship looking forward that already has a name is the Disney Believe. Disney hasn’t announced the names of the other new ships.

Fittingly revealed during an exciting moment of optimism and transformation for the company, the next ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet will be named the Disney Believe, honoring the dreamers and doers who dare to pursue their own happily ever after. (Disney)

Looking Forward

The reveal of this new timeline for the expansion of the Disney Cruise Line fleet comes ahead of next week’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. On Saturday night, Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase will reveal the future throughout Disney Experiences, including the Disney Cruise Line. There may be more announcements about what the future of the Disney Cruise Line will look like.
