Two iconic Robin Williams films are getting released on 4K Ultra HD Digital and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray for the very first time. Dead Poets Society and Mrs. Doubtfire will both be available on these formats on September 29, 2026. This comes three decades after they originally debuted in theaters. Both of these movies showcase the range that made Robin Williams one of the most legendary actors of his generation. These releases will allow viewers to experience these films in ways that look and sound better than ever.
Robin Williams portrayed James Keating, an unconventional English professor in 1989’s Dead Poets Society. Directed by Peter Weir, it sees Williams as Keating utilize poetry to inspire his students to “Carpe Diem!” This is a fantastic performance, and it earned Williams an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. It was received by both critics and audiences as a compelling and inspirational film.
Four years later, Robin Williams brought Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire to life in Mrs. Doubtfire. This performance earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. This film blended comedy with emotional depth and was directed by Chris Columbus. It is a timeless story that continues to entertain and resonate with the whole family three decades later.
With both of these movies being released in 4K, both familiar audiences and new viewers will get to see both of these films with enhanced visual and audio design. Each of the releases will include 4K resolution, High Dynamic Range (HDR), a wider color spectrum, and immersive audio. This will offer the ultimate home-viewing experience. This is the first time that both of these movies will be available in 4K on digital platforms. This includes Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango. The 4K Ultra HD releases will feature new key art for both titles. Mrs.Doubtfire will have a collectible 4K UHD physical packaging that showcases dual art of Robin Williams as Mrs. Doubtfire on the outer sleeve, with a playful reveal of his character Daniel Hillard underneath.
