New Artificial Grass Roof Appears on Ray’s Berets at Disneyland

For some fans who visit Disneyland regularly, there has been an ongoing watch of the roof on Ray’s Berets. This hat shop in Bayou Country has traditionally had a living grass roof since the park opened in 1955. It has gone through different iterations over the decades, but the grass roof has remained. Since becoming Ray’s Berets, the grass roof has struggled to stay green. A solution has been found for this challenge.

This week, guests visiting the Disneyland Resort observed that a scrim had been erected around the roofline of Ray’s Berets. Soon, green could be seen behind the scrim. By Friday, the scrim had been removed, and a new green roof could be seen. This new roof appears to be made of artificial grass. This continues a trend throughout the resort of replacing living grass with artificial grass. This initially started as an environmental effort at The Happiest Place on Earth. In this case, there is a very practical reason behind it, too.

On Friday, Daps Magic team member Steven stopped by Disneyland and found the new roof on top of Ray’s Berets. Below is a video and photos that Steven took of this new addition to this building. These show how much care was put into making the roof look right and have a feel that fits the area around it. It isn’t just golf grass. Take a look here:
