It has been nearly 70 years since the Skyway at Disneyland first opened on June 23, 1956. The original Skyway buckets were round until they were replaced by rectangular buckets in 1965. From its early days through its closure on November 9, 1994, the Skyway was a fan-favorite, especially since it offered some unique views of Disneyland.
Skyway attractions were also featured at Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World from October 1, 1971, through November 10, 1999, and at Tokyo Disneyland from April 15, 1983, through November 3, 1998.
Now the closest you can get to riding the Skyway is the Disney Skyliner at Walt Disney World, which opened on September 29, 2019. The Disney Skyliner offers transportation between Disney’s Pop Century and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Riviera Resort, and EPCOT.

As part of the Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration, a new Skyway straw clip will be making its debut at Disneyland on April 22. The Skyway straw clip is red and features the rectangular-shaped buckets, along with a “70” on the side in honor of Disneyland’s 70th anniversary.
