When Disney California Adventure had its grand reopening in 2012, one highlight for many Disney fans was a new statue of Walt Disney that was found on Buena Vista Street. Called Storytellers, this statue shows Walt Disney having just stepped off the train from Kansas City with a “suitcase and a dream.” Of course, a big part of this dream came to life thanks to Mickey Mouse, who is also standing next to him in the statue. This was a hopeful time that was full of opportunity just waiting to be discovered.

On Monday, February 23, 2026, as guests made their way into Disney California Adventure, they discovered that the Storytellers statue had been put behind walls. The walls that surround the statue are usually indicators of construction or refurbishment. Daps Magic team member Steven took the following photos of how this corner of Disney California Adventure now looks with the walls up around Walt and Mickey.
