Jimmy Kimmel Interviews Kermit the Frog Ahead of ‘The Muppet Show’ Debut

On Thursday night, Kermit the Frog appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The famous frog hopped on over to be on the show ahead of The Muppet Show special event on Disney+ and ABC on February 4, 2026. During the interview, Kermit talked about eating flies (versus Jimmy’s fly fishing), guest-hosting The Tonight Show, vacationing on Magic Johnson’s boat, meeting Kaley Cuoco backstage, and the honor of having a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He also talked about the upcoming The Muppet Show special event. The discussion was quite entertaining and funny at multiple times. There is also some discussion about Jimmy Kimmel’s summer break and guest co-hosts that leads to the suggestion that Kermit should take on the role! The Muppet Show special event will be arriving on Disney+ and ABC. While this is a single show, if it goes well, it is being viewed as a pilot that could lead to more. It is being executive produced by Seth Rogan, who also appears in the show. Sabrina Carpenter is the guest star in this show, and Maya Rudolph will also be appearing.

Veteran Muppet performers Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman, and Matt Vogel will be returning to bring a bulk of the Muppets to life. The Muppet Show special is directed by Alex Timbers. It is executive produced by Sabrina Carpenter, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Vogel, Jacobson, David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter, Michael Steinbach, Albertina Rizzo, James Weaver, and Alex McAtee.

The special comes as The Muppet Show is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026. During its original run, the show ran from 1976 to 1981. It had special celebrity guests appear that included Elton John, Johnny Cash, Diana Ross, Debbie Harry, Gladys Knight, Liza Minelli, Paul Simon, Steve Martin, and many more. All five seasons of the show can be seen on Disney+.

The Muppet Show will also be shown by D23 on February 3rd for the next D23 Gold Theater. Details can befound here.
