It’s the holiday season! One of the highlights of this season for many is getting to watch all of the Christmas and holiday specials. One favorite special is The Muppet Christmas Carol. This is an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Surprisingly, it is also one of the most faithful adaptations of the story. The movie can currently be seen in two forms on Disney+. One of these is the one that many have seen through the years. This is what could be considered the original version of the film. There is, however, a second version of the film. This is the extended version of the film.
The extended version of The Muppet Christmas Carol includes the song When Love is Gone, as sung by Belle (Meredith Braun). This song adds to the pain that Scrooge has to experience as he realizes all that he has lost because of his focus on greed instead of love. This extended version adds more context to the movie and more heart. It also explains Rizzo crying later in the film. This poignant scene was cut from the original release of the movie as Disney executives thought it would be too sad for kids.
