Tron: Ares is now in theaters. This movie is the third in the franchise that dates back decades. While the newest film is in theaters now, some of the treasures from the original Tron (1982) and Tron: Legacy (2010) can be found in The Walt Disney Archives. In a video that was shared by Disney, Francesca Scrimgeour, an archivist with the Walt Disney Archives, shares some iconic costumes, helmets, and identity discs and shows how they have evolved through the years with each story. This legacy continues today with Tron: Ares. She also shares how a visit to Walt Disney’s offices in Burbank, California, also inspired the filmmakers.
“That’s our whole mission,” Scrimgeour says. “We want to collect, preserve, share, and make available for research all these incredible items that are historical to the Walt Disney Company.”
“There’s something very valuable about being able to get your hands on the actual assets and see the art up close,” Justin Springer, who produced TRON: Legacy and TRON: Ares, said. He added that the Archives’ collection helped the filmmakers “draw that connective tissue between the films that came before and the ones we’re making now and into the future.”
