The Disney Destiny will be joining the Disney Cruise Line fleet later this year. When it does, guests will get to experience its theme of “Heroes and Villains.” There will be countless experiences found aboard this ship that immerse guests in the stories of both heroes and villains. This includes the story of Hercules in the Disney Hercules stage show that was announced last year at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.
A New Show Grounded in a Classic Animated Film
Today, Disney Cruise Line revealed more details about what guests will see when they experience Disney Hercules. First off, this stage show will be a loving adaptation of the Walt Disney Animation Studios film. It will offer a fresh, contemporary retelling of the film with the iconic soundtrack as a foundation for the show. This will include celebrating the memorable songs like Go the Distance, Zero to Hero, and I Won’t Say I’m in Love. This song was sung at D23 last summer and can be seen in the video above. Disney Hercules will present new renditions of these songs live, like never heard before, with new musical arrangements that are inspired by the soulfulness of gospel music, that will also have the energy of a pop concert.
There will also be a brand new song included in Disney Hercules. Called Shooting Star, this is a heartfelt ballad that originally was written for the movie by Alan Menken and David Zippel. This will be the theatrical debut for this song.
Characters
There will also be all the favorite gods, mortals, and other mythical beings from the movie in this rendition of the story. However, many will be represented in surprising new ways.
As is seen in the film, the Muses will be the storytellers of the show. They will once again have over-the-top personalities and transcendent vocals, which will shine brightly on the stage. The costumes will feature high-fashion designs to showcase the opulence of the gods of Mount Olympus. They will contrast with more understated and humble attire that is worn by the humans and creatures found on Earth.
Puppets
Some of the larger-than-life characters that are found in this show will be brought to life with some incredible puppetry. They will be designed by award-winning puppet designer Michael Curry. Other puppets designed by Curry debuted last year on the Disney Treasure in Disney The Tale of Moana. The new show will embody the ship’s theme of “heroes and villains” and utilize massive puppets to represent the mythological behemoths, including the multi-headed Hydra monster, that Hercules will face and defeat as part of his hero’s journey.
Disney Hercules is being developed exclusively for the Disney Destiny. This will be one of three stage shows that will be offered aboard the Disney Destiny. There will also be Frozen, A Musical Spectacular, and also Disney Seas the Adventure.
Disney Destiny
The Disney Destiny will be taking its inaugural voyage with guests on November 20, 2025. It is one of two new ships joining the Disney Cruise Line fleet in 2025. The other is the Disney Adventure, which will be sailing from Singapore. The Disney Destiny will let cruisers experience many stories of Disney heroes and villains from Disney and Marvel Studios.
