Earlier this weekend it looked like Snow White would be earning $45 million. However, the modern live-action retelling of Walt Disney’s original animated film didn’t quite reach that mark. The film brought in $43 million domestically during its opening weekend. Internationally, the film brought in $44.3 million. Both domestic and international numbers were below projections. It was initially expected the film would bring in $100 million during its opening weekend. Instead, it only brought in $87.3 million.
The low box office debut of Snow White appears to make it one of the lowest openings for a Disney live-action remake. 2019’s Dumbo brought in $45 million during its opening weekend. It is in the company of the recently released Mufasa: The Lion King and its $35 million opening weekend. This film continued to slowly burn at the box office and eventually earned $252 million domestically and $716 million globally. It is possible that familiarity with this character and story could lead to Snow White following a similar track. It is also possible that the film, which has been embroiled in controversy, will not be able to get off the ground.
The anecdotal word-of-mouth, which has been more or less positive, might also help Snow White. This will most likely be seen as the box office numbers show is next week’s moviegoers or early spring break crowds are seeing the film.

Watch the official trailer for Disney’s #SnowWhite, only in theaters March 21, 2025.
From the producer and executive producer of “Wicked,” Marc Platt and Jared LeBoff, and director Marc Webb (“The Amazing Spider-Man”) comes “Disney’s Snow White,” a live-action musical reimagining of the studio’s classic 1937 film. The magical music adventure journeys back to the timeless story with Rachel Zegler (“West Side Story”) in the title role and Gal Gadot (“Wonder Woman”) as her Stepmother, the Evil Queen.
The new trailer showcases the scale and beauty of the lavish production design, the beloved characters Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, and Sneezy, and a first look at the power ballad Waiting on a Wish, one of the all-new original songs from EGOT winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (“The Greatest Showman”).
