‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Wins at Box Office With Significant Box Office Drop

After earning over $100 million during its opening weekend, Captain America: Brave New World is poised to win its second weekend at the box office. However, it won’t be with the same level of strength as the first weekend. The newest entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is seeing its momentum fade fast.

Captain America: Brave New World is set to $28.3 million at the box office over the weekend, a 68% dip from last weekend. At this point, the film has earned $141 million domestically and $289.4 internationally. It is believed that this film cost Marvel Studios $180 million, not including marketing. This does make it less expensive than many Marvel movies but it still has a way to go until considered a bonafide success.

This film has been fighting an uphill battle with less than positive reviews. This makes the drop in momentum unsurprising. Its drop is similar to the 70% drop that 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania saw after its $106 million debut. This film didn’t even break $500 million at the box office and also didn’t break even during its theatrical run. While other Marvel films have seen significant drops in their sophomore weeks, they also have had stronger openings to offset the drop. Leadership at Marvel Studios and Disney are undoubtedly watching these numbers and hoping not to repeat Quantumania.
