Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery

Netflix Releases New Look at Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc in ‘Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’

The next Benoit Blanc mystery will be arriving on Netflix later this year. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery promises to be Blanc’s “most dangerous case yet.” Already, a photo of Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc had been released, which was a snapshot taken by writer and director Rian Johnson. Today, a new photo was released showing Daniel Craig in character alongside Knives Out newcomer Josh O’Connor (The Crown).

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is the third Benoit Blanc mystery that will be making its way to Netflix. At the end of the second mystery, Blanc is seen sitting on the beach of Bron’s estate on a beautiful Greek island as he considers the chaotic events of the previous few days. However, Netflix teased that the fiery ending of Glass Onion could also be seen as a beginning to the Blanc’s next chapter.

In this next murder mystery, Blanc will be in a new yet-to-be-revealed setting. He’ll be surrounded by a colorful new cast of suspects as well.

There are very few details that have been revealed about this next Knives Out film. There may be hints revealed with the coffin that was featured in the film’s teaser. There could be more hints found, even in the picture released today. The title itself comes from the U2 song of the same name. There may be clues found within the song.

“I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is,” Johnson posted on X in a thread announcing the film’s new title. “There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”

As has been the case in the previous films, there is an incredible cast of characters joining Daniel Craig in this film. Director Rian Johnson describes casting for these films as “throwing a dinner party.” This time around he is taking a similar approach. “We’ve been very lucky with each of these movies to have gathered some of my favorite actors on the planet, and that’s absolutely the case here,” Johnson tells Tudum. “They’re also all lovely folks who get along, which is the dinner party aspect of it. When you’re making an ensemble movie like this, I think that’s key.”

Here is a look at the cast for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery:

  • Daniel Craig (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Casino Royale)
  • Josh O’Connor (ChallengersThe Crown)
  • Glenn Close (Dangerous LiaisonsFatal Attraction)
  • Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men, Dune)
  • Mila Kunis (Black Swan,Luckiest Girl Alive)
  • Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Town)

  • Cailee Spaeny (Civil War, Priscilla)
  • Daryl McCormack (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande;Peaky Blinders)

Those who saw Glass Onion will remember that “Renning Hot” habanero chili pepper sauce played a prominent role. This time around, Jeremy Renner will be in the film as well. “Jeremy’s a great actor who I’ve wanted to work with for a long time,” Johnson says. “I was very relieved he thought the hot sauce thing was funny! He’s playing a proper part in this one, we’ll keep the sauce off-screen. Maybe we’ll sneak a few bottles onto the catering table.”

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery was filmed in London in 2024. It wrapped last summer. It will be released on Netflix later this year.
