After being closed for well over a year, the classic/original version of the Haunted Mansion has reopened at Disneyland. The reopening of this version of the attraction comes after it has seen its grounds extended, a new shop at the exit added, and some new additions inside. This includes a new take on the bride, that is inspired by the original version of the character, and also new hitchhiking guests who attempt to follow guests home just before they depart the attraction.
The extended queue in the expanded grounds has already been experienced by guests. However, the reopening of the classic version of the attraction creates the cohesive experience that this queue was meant to have. It continues the story that is experienced inside the attraction out into the ground. This includes nods to the various story elements inside the attraction, like Master Gracey and Madame Leota.
Inside the attraction, the most notable addition is that of the bride. She is still on the left side in the attic just before guests exit the house and see the Hitchhiking Ghosts. Now, she floats in the window with her red heart beating to Richard Wagner’s Bridal Chorus. She carries a candelabra that is seen throughout the attraction as she grieves the loss of her husbands. This version of the bride is a return to the original take on this part of the attraction.
“We thought, what if we change the story back a little bit to the original story that the Imagineers had about a lost bride in the attic mourning the loss of her husbands.” Imagineer Kim Irvine recently shared with the Los Angeles Times. “It was a sad thing. It was a story about lost love.”
