On this day in 1986, ‘The Christmas Star’ premiered as the “The Disney Sunday Movie” on ‘The Wonderful World of Disney.’ The made-for-TV-movie stars Ed Asner as a grizzled counterfeiter who is on the run after escaping from prison. Two local children befriend him thinking he is the real Santa Claus due to his similar appearance. At first, the convict misuses the children’s kindness, but in time he has a change of heart and learns the true meaning of Christmas.
