Moana 2 continues to sail to new records. In this case, the animated sequel had the biggest Black Friday at the box office ever. This comes after having a record-breaking preview and more records broken for Thanksgiving. The movie brought in $54.5 million on Black Friday at the box office. This saw it cruising past the former record made by Frozen II in 2019. It garnered $34.1.
To date, Moana 2 has now earned $140 million at the box office. This has it flying by the previous five-day holiday weekend record of $125 million that was held by Frozen II. With two more days of the holiday weekend, there is still a lot of potential for this movie to continue to grow. The success of Moana 2 has been a boost to the box office that is accompanied by the successes of Wicked and Gladiator II. Up until the release of these three films, it had been a weak fall for theaters.
Moana 2 continues the story of Moana as she seeks to find more people from different islands in the ocean and protect the future for her own. Daps Magic’s review of this film can be found here. Originally it was being made as a series for Disney+. However, with the return of Bob Iger to the role of CEO of The Walt Disney Company, it was changed to be made into a full-length feature with a theatrical release.
