Shanghai, September 9, 2024 – This Mid-Autumn Festival, guests visiting Shanghai Disney Resort can look forward to an exciting new addition to the Duffy Month offerings as the resort collaborates with the prestigious Shanghai Huju Opera Theatre to present a special edition of the hit show, “Enjoying the Moon with Duffy and Friends”. The collaboration will incorporate Shanghai Huju Opera into special performances of the show taking place on the Enchanted Storybook Castle stage from September 15 to 17, offering guests a truly one-of-a-kind way to celebrate the traditional festival through a unique Disney experience infused with a local twist.

Shanghai Disney Resort continues to bring unforgettable experiences to guests through innovation and creativity, adhering to the concept of “Authentically Disney, Distinctly Chinese.” Shanghai Huju Opera, as a local form of intangible cultural heritage and a symbol of Shanghai culture, is consistently preserved and promoted by the Shanghai Huju Opera Theatre, one of the most highly acclaimed practitioners of the opera style. By bringing together two respective Shanghai icons, the collaboration draws on world-class Disney performances with the cultural spirit of Shanghai to create unique experiences that not only resonate deeply with Shanghai guests, but also allow guests of all ages from near and far to immerse themselves in the renowned cultural charm of Shanghai at Shanghai Disney Resort during the important Mid-Autumn Festival.

“By collaborating with Shanghai Huju Opera Theatre, we are excited to bring to life an innovative blend of local tradition and iconic Disney storytelling,” said Joe Schott, President and General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort. “Bringing together beloved Duffy and Friends with this unique Shanghai art form during one of the most important traditional Chinese festivals is one of the many ways that Shanghai Disney Resort is creating authentic connections with our guests to provide them with unforgettable experiences.”

“The collaboration between Shanghai Huju Opera Theatre and Shanghai Disney Resort for this Mid-Autumn Festival combines the classic Shanghai Huju Opera together with enchanting Disney performances,” said Wu Wei, President of Shanghai Huju Opera Theatre. “This innovative initiative further preserves and promotes the Shanghai dialect and the art of Shanghai Huju Opera, enabling a broader audience to experience the enchantment of traditional opera while being immersed in a magical Disney experience. This collaboration marks a step towards blending our cultural heritage with contemporary entertainment.”

Since its debut last autumn, the show “Enjoying the Moon with Duffy and Friends” has become an unmissable experience for guests during Duffy Month. The story unfolds with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse joining Duffy and Friends to engage in the tradition of “enjoying the moon” as they celebrate friendship and the Mid-Autumn Festival together. During the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival public holiday, this special edition of the show is set to further enchant the guests with an infusion of classical elements from Shanghai Huju Opera. Drawing inspiration from the Chinese legend “Chang’e Flying to the Moon,” Xu Zitian, a 11-year-old rising star from the Shanghai Huju Opera Theatre, will dress as Chang’e, the fairy of the moon, and perform with Duffy and Friends on the castle stage. She will perform the Duffy Month theme song “Let’s Get Together” in Shanghai dialect for the first time. The incorporation of the classic melodies, musical instruments, and renowned arias of Shanghai Huju Opera into Disney performances will provide guests with an immersive and culturally resonant entertainment experience for the holiday.

Presented during the last show of “Enjoying the Moon with Duffy and Friends” every day from September 15 to 17, the Mid-Autumn Festival public holiday, this special performance will make an unforgettable addition to a full lineup of fan-favorite offerings this season. From charming photo walls and Duffy florals and themed merchandise, to seasonal food and drink, and exclusive greetings, as the summer heat gives way to a refreshing autumn breeze, guests will find plenty of reasons to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival at Shanghai Disney Resort.
