On September 28, 2020, Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast opened at Tokyo Disneyland. This trackless ride takes people right into the beautiful story of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. For those who haven’t been on it before, this attraction takes guests through the movie starting with Be Our Guest. It has phenomenal effects, and beautiful audio-animatronics, and is arguably the best Disney dark ride created to date.
Here is a video of Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast from November 2023 that was taken by members of the Daps Magic team when Mr. Daps visited Japan and Tokyo Disneyland. Check out this magnificent attraction that is celebrating its fourth anniversary today and continues to set the bar for what Walt Disney Imagineering can do.
Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast – Tokyo Disneyland
Thoughts From Mr. Daps
I will admit, I didn’t get this attraction until I went on it. I also knew I was going to see it in person so I didn’t watch videos and had only seen photos. However, even videos cannot do this attraction justice. The entire experience is simply incredible and completely immersive.
The experience for this attraction really begins upon walking into the area. This is done by walking through Belle’s Village. Just like Cars Land brought the world of Pixar’s Cars to life in an incredible way at Disney California Adventure, Belle’s Village does the same for Tokyo Disneyland. There are shops, there is Gaston’s Tavern, and in the middle of the area is the Beast’s Castle. This also is the entrance to Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast.
Just walking around and seeing this area and all of the details that can be found here could easily take hours if one really wanted to dig in deep. However, since this was my first time in Tokyo Disneyland, I didn’t have that time. The line in the morning was ridiculously long ridiculously quickly. So we returned in the afternoon right after the parade and the line was significantly shorter. The great thing about this is the queue for Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast is packed with details as well. I was glad we decided to go standby for this. The experience that began with walking into Belle’s Village only got better as we made our way through the queue.
The Queue
The queue has elements of the story and puts the guests in the shoes of Belle and lets them see what she would see. This includes wandering through the woods, approaching the Beast’s castle, going inside it, and then exploring the various rooms that are seen before Be Our Guest in the movie. This includes the “Master’s chair” by the fireplace, a hallway full of armor (just needed Cogsworth saying “as you were!”), and eventually after a few magical experiences the kitchen that is preparing the food for Belle. This includes the scene where Belle and the Beast meet, which is incredible! Guests then board their teacups and join the story at Be Our Guest.
The Attraction
Throughout the attraction, the audio-animatronics were some of the best seen. They feel like they have jumped off the screen and come to life. The sets are stunning. The music is beautiful. There are also some absolutely magical effects as well. Seeing the transformation is an incredible thing. Somehow this attraction evokes the emotions that many felt when they first saw Beauty and the Beast on the big screen.
The attraction ends just as the movie does, in the ballroom with a big and beautiful version of Beauty and the Beast being sung by that classic Disney chorus as Belle dances with her true love.
The Exit
After exiting the attraction, the experience continues as guests walk through the castle grounds. This leads to more beautiful views of the Beast’s Castle and then Belle’s Village. The entire experience is breathtaking. It is a must-do for any Disney fan visiting Tokyo Disney Resort. While this attraction may be four years old today, it still feels like it is brand new. It is also one that I personally would love to experience again and again!
