Monsters, Inc. Land Headed to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event was this last weekend in Anaheim, California. Along with thousands of fans coming to the Disneyland Resort area, there was also a ton of news to come out of this weekend. A lot of the news that intrigues Disney Parks fans came from Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase. This included news about new attractions, experiences, ships, and even lands!

One of the lands that was announced by Josh D’Amaro is a new Monsters, Inc. land. As was often the case throughout the event, he didn’t make the announcement by himself. In this case, he was joined by Billy Crystal for an incredible moment. It was funny, it was informative, it was musical, and it was awesome. The new land will be found in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. A specific location was not revealed during the showcase.

The new land will allow guests to stroll along the streets with some of their favorite characters from Monsters, Inc. A visit to this land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will put guests into the world of Monsters, Inc after the events of the film. As is known by anyone who saw the film, monsters now need laughter to power the city and keep things running smoothly. Guests will even be able to visit the factory and see the sights, and hear the laughs that are found there. On top of that, they will get to zoom through the building just as Mike and Sully did… via a door!

This will be on a new attraction that will bring that incredible seen where those beloved character ride through the door vault. “The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley,” he told the crowd. “You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

This attraction will be a coaster and it will put guests right in the middle of all of the monstrous action. This is the first suspended coaster in a Disney park. The doors will also be lifted and moved around by the big mechanical claws, just like in the movie. Work is scheduled to begin on the attraction sometime next year.
