There are a lot of exciting things coming to the Disney Experiences segment of The Walt Disney Company. On Saturday night during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, a plethora of announcements were made for the segment. Along with announcements about the Disney Parks, Disney Experiences Chairman announced that the Disney Cruise Line fleet will be getting substantially expanded.
During the panel, it was announced that the fleet will be expanded with the addition of four new ships. This announcement comes as there are already several ships set to join the fleet in the near future. Later this year, the Disney Treasure will begin to take guests on nautical adventures. Next year, the Disney Adventure and the Disney Destiny will join the fleet. This will be followed by a new Wish-class ship that will be built with the Oriental Land Company.
“Disney Cruise Line is consistently the top-rated cruise line for families because it offers something for everyone. Expanding our fleet gives more people, in more parts of the world, the opportunity to experience a vacation at sea like only Disney can provide,” Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, said during the showcase.
The four ships that were announced on Saturday night will be joining the Disney Cruise Line fleet between 2027 and 2031. Currently, there are five ships in the fleet. In the coming years, the fleet will more than double in size. When these new ships are completed, the fleet will include 13 ships.
“Disney Cruise Line is a shining example of the diversity and breadth of experiences that make up the Disney Experiences portfolio – bringing together our signature Disney service, storytelling and innovation,” Thomas Mazloum — president, New Experiences Portfolio and Disney Signature Experiences — said. “Our growing fleet will further strengthen Disney Cruise Line’s position as a leader in family cruising.”
Along with announcing the four new ships, concept art for the upcoming Disney The Tale of Moana was shared. This musical stage show will debut on the Disney Treasure later this year. The concept art shows Moana standing up against a 15 foot tall Te Kā. Te Kā will be brought to life as a puppet. When the show debuts, this will be the biggest puppet to be used aboard any Disney Cruise Line ship in the fleet.
it was also announced that when the Disney Destiny debuts, it will have a Hercules stage show aboard it.
Along with these announcements, there were plenty more made during the musical showcase for Disney Experiences. The full panel can be watched here:
