Hot Ones with Donald Duck

Donald Duck Flames Out in ‘Hot Ones’

Donald Duck is known for losing his temper. For 90 years, fans have gotten a kick out of watching him blow his top in a variety of situations. As part of his 90th birthday celebration, he blew his top in a new way. He flamed out while appearing on a special edition of Hot Ones. During this episode, he is asked questions by host Sean Evans while trying to enjoy cauliflower wings. During the discussion, Donald talks about Disney lore, his unfiltered thoughts on impersonators, and much more.

“Mickey Mouse and his friends, including Donald Duck have always been a part of popular culture so it only made sense that Donald and Mickey appear on one of the most recognized internet shows with celebrity guests,” said Tim Pennoyer, director of brand Marketing, The Walt Disney Company.

The animation for Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse on this unique episode of Hot Ones was done by the Walt Disney Animation Studios team, led by legendary animator Eric Goldberg. Goldberg is known for animating the Genie in Disney’s Aladdin (1992) and also directing Disney’s Pocahontas (1995). Tony Anselmo voiced Donald Duck and Bret Iwan voiced Mickey Mouse for this special appearance on Hot Ones.

“It’s been a great honor to direct two of our greatest stars, Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse, on this special episode of Hot Ones. Of course, Donald can get a bit cranky at times, but all of the artists involved loved animating him!” said Goldberg. “It was a blast working with Sean Evans and the Hot Ones team, and the voices of Donald, Tony Anselmo, and Mickey, Bret Iwan.”

Hot Ones is a popular YouTube interview series created by Chris Schonberger and hosted by Sean Evans, where celebrity guests are interviewed while eating increasingly spicy chicken wings. Each episode features a lineup of ten hot sauces, ranging from mild to extremely fiery, and as the heat intensifies, so does the challenge of answering questions. The show’s unique format often leads to candid and entertaining moments as guests struggle with the escalating spice. Hot Ones has gained a large following for its blend of humor, celebrity insights, and the spectacle of watching well-known figures handle the heat—or fail trying.

Donald Duck, one of Disney’s most iconic characters, first quacked onto the screen in 1934 in The Wise Little Hen, and the world was never quite the same. With his unmistakable voice, a sailor suit that never quite went out of style, and a temper as short as his fuse, Donald quickly waddled into the hearts of audiences everywhere. As the years rolled by, Donald’s adventures grew wilder and more varied—whether battling his mischievous nephews, racing through Duckburg, or dreaming of fortune like his Uncle Scrooge. But through it all, beneath the feathers and the grumbling, there’s always been a duck who’s as brave as he is blustery, as loyal as he is loud and as timeless as his unmistakable quack.
