Actor Dabney Coleman Dies at 92

Actor Dabney Coleman has passed away at the age of 92. The Hollywood Reporter shared the sad news from the actor’s daughter that Coleman had died on Thursday at his home.

“My father crafted his time here on Earth with a curious mind, a generous heart and a soul on fire with passion, desire and humor that tickled the funny bone of humanity,” she said. “As he lived, he moved through this final act of his life with elegance, excellence and mastery. A teacher, a hero and a king, Dabney Coleman is a gift and blessing in life and in death as his spirit will shine through his work, his loved ones and his legacy … eternally.”

Coleman had a long career playing characters who had no character. He appeared in 9 to 5On Golden PondTootsie, WarGamesYou’ve Got Mail, and also Muppets Take Manhattan. In Muppets Take Manhattan, Coleman humorously portrayed Murray Plotsky, a con artist posing as a theatrical producer named Martin Price.

He also appeared in other projects for The Walt Disney Company. He voiced Principle Peter Prickly in the animated series Recess. In Inspector Gadget, he portrayed Chief Quimbly. My Date with the President’s Daughter saw him taking on the role of the President of the United States. There are other titles that he helped bring to life as well both on the big and small screen.

Coleman won an Emmy in 1987 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Special for his role Sworn to Silence. His final role was in 2019 in Yellowstone.
