It’s Mickey Mouse’s Birthday today and he is the big 95! And, in the same year, Disney turned 100! It has been said that it all started with a mouse, but that mouse came 5 years after the Disney brothers started their studio. Still, the Disney company would not be on the map without the plucky little mouse. The year of Disney’s 100th anniversary also saw the opening of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland. Though it had previously opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, this version featured a very interesting queue.
Runaway Railway’s Toontown queue traces the history of Mickey Mouse! From early Steamboat Willie fame to the more modern shorts that have graced Disney Plus, it’s chronicled in some amazing vignettes of props and posters. Some of these scenes have some surprises to them, like the Sorcerer’s Apprentice hat. It is such a remarkable addition to the park and Mickey’s Toontown itself. And, I love how this was all put in the year of the 100th and Mickey’s 95th. It’s a great tribute to the leading mouse (and leading lady mouse).
