The Walt Disney Family Museum has announced a new board president. The grandson of Walt Disney, Walter E.D. Miller, has been announced as the new President of the Board of Directors. Walter E.D. Miller is the son of Ron Miller and Dian Disney Miller. He is also a co-founder of the museum.
“I am honored to continue contributing to this inspirational space that my mother and I first envisioned so many years ago,” says Walter Miller. “I personally feel that I owe my grandpa Walt so much, not only as a grandson who admires him, but mostly for what he gave to the world in his short life. I’m excited to embark on this new chapter in keeping his story alive.”
Walter E.D. Miller takes over the role from his sister, Tamara Miller, who held the role for four years. Tamara Miller will continue to serve on the museum’s Board of Directors.
Walter E.D. Miller executive produced Walt: The Man Behind the Myth (2001). This took a look at the life of Walt Disney’s life and career and gave an intimate look at this man who continues to inspire the world decades after his death. He also was the executive producer of Walt & El Grupo (2008). This film took a look at the goodwill and research trip that Walt Disney took to South America in 1941. Several members of Walt’s creative team joined him on this tour that would lead to the production of the Latin American-themed animation features Saludos Amigos(1943) and The Three Caballeros (1945). These were both screened domestically and internationally. Walter E.D. Miller also previously served as President of the Walt Disney Family Foundation.
The Walt Disney Family Museum opened at the Presidio in San Francisco on October 1, 2009. It grew out of the Walt Disney Family Foundation, which was established in 1995. Initially the museum was envisioned as a much smaller experience, however, the ideas and dreams of what this museum could be continued to grow. The dream was realized in this large space found at the Presidio where the life and legacy of Walt Disney is both remembered and celebrated. This is a place where people can come to be inspired, learn, and moved. It is a must-visit destination for any Disney fan.
