Disney has released the first look at Rachel Zegler in the title role of Disney’s Snow White. Along with releasing this image, Disney also announced that the film’s release will be delayed by a year. The film’s release date will be moved from March 22, 2024 to March 21, 2025. The image shows Zegler’s Snow White sitting in what appears to the seven dwarfs cottage.
Disney also shared more about the film. It described the film saying it “invites audiences back into the magical world of Snow White with beloved songs and recognizable characters such as the Evil Queen and, of course, Dopey, Grumpy, Sneezy, Bashful, Happy, Sleepy and Doc.”
The new description appears to indicate that the film may be telling a more traditional telling of the original Disney animated feature. Set photos last year seemed to indicate that the story was being told in a different way. However, Disney at the time said that those photos weren’t official and were just set photos and some of the characters that were seen were stand ins.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was Walt Disney’s original animated feature. It was released in 1937 and was the first full-length animated feature ever made. It featured songs by Frank Churchill and Larry Morey and immediately captured people’s hearts and imagination as Walt Disney showed a new way to tell stories with animation. Nearly 100 years later, Walt Disney Animation Studios is now set to release its 62nd film, Wish.
Disney’s Snow White is directed by Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), produced by Marc Platt (The Little Mermaid) and includes original songs from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (The Greatest Showman).
Disney also announced that Pixar Animation Studios’ new film Elio is getting a new release date as well. It will now see its theatrical arrival move from March 1, 2024 to June 13, 2025.
