Disney’s Animated Classic “The Lion King” Returning to Theaters For Disney100 Celebration

Disney’s animated classic The Lion King is returning to theaters for a limited run starting this weekend. The film is returning to theaters as The Walt Disney Company celebrate its 100th anniversary. As part of the Disney100 celebration, some favorite Disney films are being shown in theaters. The Lion King will be in theaters once again starting on September 29th and continue through October 12, 2023. Currently Coco is being screened as part of this celebration. Throughout the course of these Disney100 special engagements, eight Disney movies are being re-released into theaters for two weeks each. Tickets for The Lion King can be purchased on Fandango or other theater websites.

The Lion King Official Description

Disney’s epic adventure follows the story of Simba, a fiesty lion cub who “just can’t wait to be king.” Led astray by his ambitious Uncle Star, Simba adopts a carefree lifestyle with his hilarious companions, Timon and Pumbaa, and forgets his regal responsibilities. But destiny calls and he must decide when the time is right to return to the Pride Lands and reclaim his place in the “Circle of Life.”

About The Lion King

The Lion King was the 32nd animated film to be released by Disney. It was directed by Roger Allers, Rob Minkoff. The film was released on June 15, 1994. Initially it was only released in two theaters, the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles and Radio City Music Hall in New York City. It would go into wide release on June 24, 1994. It received universal acclaim by critics and was loved by audiences as well. At the box office, it brought in $763 million globally. This made it the most successful film of the year. It went on two win two Academy Awards for Best Original Song and Best Original Score. In 2016, it would be selected for preservation by the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.

The Lion King has a fantastic soundtrack with songs by Elton John & Tim Rice and a score by Hans Zimmer. The tracklist for the soundtrack is as follows:
