Monterey is getting a new attraction from the company that helped develop Soarin’. The attraction will be built in what was formerly an IMAX Theatre in Cannery Row. The ride system that is being put in place is developed by Dynamic Attractions and will be similar to what guests experience at Disney California Adventure when they go on Soarin’. The new attraction will be called Encounter.
The ride system will be identical in function to the Disney attraction. The rest of the experience will not be, however. The attraction will accommodate 39 people and suspend them in front of a large screen for one of two adventures. Dynamic Attractions describes the proprietary experience as a “flying theatre.” One experience will take visitors through a simulation involving dinosaurs. The other will take guests on an aerial tour of the Pacific West Coast. Each iteration of the show will be 8 minutes long and also have a 10 minute pre-show.
According to their website, Dynamic Attractions “designs, builds and maintains ride and attraction related systems for the world’s top theme parks.” The company has worked with Disney, Universal, Cedar Fair, and many other companies. They have worked on ride systems for attractions including Soarin’, Test Track, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Radiator Springs Racers, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain, and many many more.
Encounter is set to be opening at 640 Wave Street in Monterey, California in the spring of 2024. Encounter is owned and operated by The Fly Group. The Fly Group is based in New Mexico and owns restaurants, amusement attractions and also an insurance business. The Fly Group co-owner Nadine Martinez Daskalos shared the along with the two options for the attraction, there will also be merchandise made of the attraction’s characters which they hope will become popular.
A building permit filing shows that the attraction is expected to employ 20 people and also include retail space and also a café that will also serve alcohol. There will also be an arcade at the location.
