Walt Disney Board Names P&G's Susan Arnold As Independent Director

BURBANK, Calif. (AP) — Media conglomerate Walt Disney Co. said its board elected Susan E. Arnold as a new independent director, effective Tuesday.

Arnold, 53, is the vice chairman of P&G Beauty & Health at Procter & Gamble Co. and has served in that capacity since 2004. She was the first woman to be named vice chairman at the Cincinnati consumer products maker.

Arnold is not replacing any board member, a Disney spokesman said, but her appointment follows the retirement of Leo J. O'Donovan in March at the company's annual meeting.

Shares of Walt Disney rose 49 cents to close at $35.47 on the New York Stock Exchange.
