“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” Makes a Strong Debut During Opening Weekend

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had a very solid opening weekend at the box office as it exceeded expectations. The movie brought in $118.4 million during the course of its opening weekend. This made this film the 12th strongest opening ever for the month of May. It also puts the film about $8 million ahead of its projected $110 million.

The opening weekend numbers mean that this film is sitting between its two predecessors in the franchise. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 earned $94 million in 2014 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 brought in $146 million in 2017.

Globally, the film added a substantial number to its total as well. In total, it brought in over $280 million. $168 million of this was garnered internationally. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the third and final film in the Guardians franchise, all directed by James Gunn. The film has Peter Quill rallying his team together once again to save the galaxy and also one of their own.
