Construction Goes Vertical in Downtown Disney District Transformation

Construction has gone vertical in Downtown Disney District in what has been a big pit where the AMC Theatres once could be found. Guests riding aboard the Monorail throughout the course of this transformation have been able to see the removal of the AMC Theatres building, a big dirt pit for quite some time, and recently construction began. Now, things are starting to grow up out of the ground.

Daps Magic team member Angela took a ride on the highway in the sky over the Memorial Day weekend to check out the changes that are happening in the Downtown Disney District. Check out the video and photos below of how things are progressing.

When completed, this new area for the Downtown Disney District will include new retail and dining offerings along with an outdoor performance space with a grassy viewing area. Concept art has been released by Disney for what this potentially will look like. Specific businesses for the area have not been confirmed at this time. Here is a piece of concept art for this space that was seen in the above photos and video. The buildings that are going vertical can be seen next to the Monorail in the concept art.

Disney is all about atmosphere. They stripped The Jazz Kitchen of the charm of a New Orleans eatery. Looks like a dept store now. How sad.
