Welcome to another weekly look at Star Trek Picard. This week we saw the Titan go on their own after they find many of their allies have been compromised. Jack finds more wrong with him as he is able to read Sydney’s mind in trying to ask her out. Picard, Dr. Crusher, and Geordi realize that the changelings want to use Picard’s remains and Jack to create a hybrid genetic duplicate that would get past the security at Frontier Day. They all realize they could set a trap for Vadic on the Titan, and set that in motion. As the trap is executed, Jack helps Sydney by somewhat controlling some of her actions. Vadic is trapped and she explains how she was experimented on by Starfleet which has fueled the hatred. Lore takes over the hybrid android body and starts to take over the ship. Data recovers just in time, but Vadic has now assumed command of the Titan-A, and gives a mysterious call to Jack for him to find out who he really is.
Here we go with our thoughts on this week’s episode.
Music
Mr. Daps: “I really am so happy with the music in Star Trek: Picard. I can’t wait for the soundtrack to be released. This week continued to build on the track record of previous weeks with new music that have some beautiful musical moments. This is some of the best Star Trek music in years, if not decades!”
Murray: “The music has been stellar (pun intended) this season. This episode had me notice themes that seem to be all its own for the season. It shows the maturity and homage to the past.”
Design
Mr. Daps: “This week didn’t have a ton of new design elements in terms of ships, except maybe the location of the Titan. However, there were some interesting character designs for the changelings.”
Murray: “There wasn’t anything necessarily new as far as design in this episode. But, the makeup has been creative, especially as the changelings show various shapes of characters.”
Story
Mr. Daps: “This week was a very good story with some absolutely incredible character moments. While there is definitely the big picture story that is happening, there are also some individual relational stories happening before. Both were very well done. I have to give a major hat tip to LeVar Burton’s moment with Brent Spiner. That was one of the most emotional moments in all of Star Trek hat was incredibly moving. Patrick Stewart and Gates McFadden were also incredible this week.”
Murray: “A well executed and suspenseful story took place. It was everything leading up to the traps and even having a hiccup makes the season go on in a great way. It wasn’t far off as little bread crumbs were laid out as well as to having Lore take over and even some trouble with Jack.”
Hit or Miss?
Mr. Daps: “This week was a definite hit. There was a LOT going on. While it didn’t end how anyone would want it to, it did keep things moving forward at a very solid pace. It also moved things forward in a way that continues to give clues and also open up the door(s) to more questions. What is going on with Jack? What about the new Data? What about Captain Vadic? Who’s really in charge? So many things to wonder about, to anticipate, and to speculate about in the coming weeks! And the way it is going, it looks like this season is going to be going at warp speed right to the end!”
Murray: “I give this a hit mark, though it I don’t think it was quite as strong as some others. The action was fast paced and made for a nicely different episode within all the others so far. But, things were a little too predictable and convenient to say it made a top of the list. Still, very well done and makes me want to keep going!”
