Some Imagination, Huh? Fantasmic! Celebrates 30 Years of Magical Dreams at Disneyland!

On Mary 13, 1992 Mickey’s imagination came to life for the first time in Fantasmic! This incredible nighttime spectacular brings the Rivers of America to life as Mickey Mouse’s imagination takes guests on a magical journey through multiple Disney stories. Eventually, he ends up facing some darker parts of his imagination culminating with a Mickey having to battle the massive Maleficent dragon.

Just as the main theme song states, Mickey’s imagination leads to “mysteries and magic, visions fantastic,” leading to “strange and wonderous dreams!” For 30 years this is exactly what has been happening through the Disney magic and imagination that is showcased in this incredible spectacular. This is done with Mickey and many other favorite Disney characters, projections, fountains, lighting effects, and pyrotechnics.

Through the years, Fantasmic! has seen a few enhancements. In 2009, Maleficent was significantly upgraded to her current form. She was now a 45 feet tall fire-breathing dragon! With her upgrades also came digital projections. A few years later in 2017, Fantasmic! saw even more significant upgrades. This included the addition of new scenes and songs including Friend Like Me and A Whole New World from Aladdin and a new scene bringing the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to life aboard the sailing ship Columbia.

Over the last 30 years, Fantasmic! has been performed almost 11,000 times on the Rivers of America at Disneyland. Soon, it will be returning to light up the nights again with its magic. This iconic show will be returning on May 28, 2022, and continue to celebrate imagination!
