One of the most magical things at Walt Disney World Resort is the magic of the new life that comes through the animals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Last month, a new baby western lowland gorilla was born at the park. This young one was born to parents Azizi and Gino.
In the weeks since birth, guests have been enjoying seeing Azizi and the baby gorilla when visiting Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail. The favorite place for the mother to rest with the baby is right up near the glass. This occasionally gives guests a chance to get an up-close view of the two together. Cory, Azizi’s other son is also quite curious about the new sibling and will stop by for a visit.
To unveil the name of this newest member of the western lowland gorilla family, Disney’s Animal Kingdom set up a special way for the gorilla family to make the big reveal. Check out this video of Cory, Lilly, and the rest of the gorilla troop as they reveal this new baby’s name.
As can be seen in the video, the name is Ada (AH-duh). The name comes from the Igbo people in Nigeria and means “first daughter.” This was chosen after Azizi had already birthed two sons and this is her first daughter.
For the gorillas to make the announcement, the animal care team created letters with rice cereal for the gorillas to unwrap. The reveal was designed as an activity that would stimulate the troop’s problem-solving skills and also encourage them to interact with their environment.
