After cruise ships stopped sailing in 2020, guests have been eager to find out when they could set sail once again. This week, we got one step closer! The CDC has approved Disney’s request for a 2-night test voyage for the Disney Dream of the Disney Cruise Line later this month.
The test voyage will leave from Port Canaveral on June 29 and will be made up of only Disney Cruise Line cast members. While the federal government has approved cruising if 98% of the crew and 95% of passengers are vaccinated, new bills in Florida prevent businesses from requiring proof of vaccination. This simulation cruise will allow the Disney Cruise Line to prove the effectiveness of its new COVID-19 measures.
While Disney has not publicly announced the measures for protection against COVID-19 on the Disney Cruise Line, we imagine it would be very similar to what we have seen in the theme parks. We imagine the masks would be required, as well as physical distancing markers around the ship and inside shops and restaurants. We hope to hear the findings of this test voyage when it returns to port in July!
