Production Begins on Disney’s Disenchanted, Sequel to Enchanted

Production has begun on Disney’s sequel to Enchanted called Disenchanted. The news came from social media where details about the film and set photos were released. The sequel takes place 15 years after the original and finds Giselle and Robert relocated to the suburb of Monroeville with teenage daughter Morgan, Giselle must rediscover what happily ever really means while facing the challenges of a new home.

Soon after, both Disney+’s twitter account and Patrick Dempsey were also chiming in.

The four main characters from the original are returning to be a part of Disenchanted. This includes Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel, and James Marsden. Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz are returning as well to write all new music for the film. In a recent interview, Stephen Schwartz said, “There are seven songs plus reprises, which is more songs than the original. We wrote a song for Idina (Menzel)’s character in the first movie, and then they didn’t have her do it. But in Disenchanted she has one big number and part of another one.”

Joining original cast members for Disenchanted are Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jayma Mays, Gabby Baldacchino, Kolton Stewart, and Oscar Nunez. Baldacchino is portraying Robert’s now grown-up daughter Morgan. During this morning’s Twitter exchange, Maya Rudolph confirmed that she will be portraying a villain in the film.

“Working again with Disney has been like coming home,” said director/producer Adam Shankman in a statement. “With Amy and this extraordinary cast, Alan and Stephen’s mind blowing new score, and Barry and Disney’s support, I just hope to bring magic and joy to audiences around the world.”

“I guess dreams do come true…producing Enchanted was the most rewarding film experience I’ve ever had,” said producer Barry Josephson in a statement. “I’m so excited for Adam Shankman to begin filming Disenchanted. I want to thank everyone at Disney for supporting us all the way. Very special thanks to Amy Adams for deciding to play ‘Giselle,’ the character she created again! And we are so fortunate to have this incredible cast!”

While Disenchanted is now filming in Ireland, it isn’t known when exactly it will be arriving on Disney+ beyond that it will be sometime in 2022.
