In a recent interview with Deadline, Kevin Feige shared a little more about the future of Wakanda and Black Panther 2. It already had been known that T’Challa would not be returning after the death of Chadwick Boseman. Beyond that, not a lot is known. As time moves on, more details will continue to come out about the movie. However, Feige shared more than has been known to date.
In the interview with Deadline, Feige said the following:
So much of the comics and that first movie is the world of Wakanda. Wakanda is a place to further explore with characters and different subcultures. This was always and initially the primary focus of the next story. We’re not going to have a CG Chadwick and we’re not recasting T’Challa. Ryan Coogler is working very hard right now on the script with all the respect and love and genius that he has, which gives us great solace, so it was always about furthering the mythology and the inspiration of Wakanda. There’s also the task of honoring and respecting the ongoing learnings and teachings from Chad as well.
This seems like an appropriate way to move forward with the story started in the first Black Panther. It also is respectful to Chadwick Boseman. It is currently expected that this film should be released in 2022.
