As Walt Disney World Resort resumes operation, there has been uncertainty about what would come next. While the closure of attractions has not been certain, many fans have wondered about what may be next for Walt Disney World. This morning, it was confirmed that Primeval Whirl, Stitch’s Great Escape, and Rivers of Light will not resume operation and are set to permanently close.
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Primeval Whirl has been in operation in DinoLand U.S.A since 2002. The mouse coaster is themed to time travel and takes guests back in time and takes them through the dinosaur extinction. The ride entered seasonal operation last fall and will now permanently close.
Rivers of Light opened to the public in February 2017 as part of the park’s expansion to full-day operations. This nighttime spectacular featured no major fireworks as to not disturb the local animals in the park. The show was reimagined to include animated characters and the show was renamed Rivers of Light: We Are One in May of 2019.
While fans have speculated that Stitch’s Great Escape that the attraction has been permanently closed since 2018, it was only confirmed to cast members today. This attraction opened at Disney’s Magic Kingdom in 2004 and has been operating on a seasonal schedule since 2016. The attraction has not welcomed guests in since 2018 and the building has been used to house a Stitch meet and greet. The meet and greet has shown up as Alien Encounter, which is a nod to ExtraTERRORestrial, the attraction that was previously in the building.
