Disney Retail Shops and Dining Establishments at Disney Springs to Reopen on May 27th

Disney will be reopening its retail shops and eating establishments at Disney Springs starting on May 27th. The news, reported by the Hollywood Reporter, comes from Eric Clinton, president of UNITE HERE, Local 362. This comes as cast members begin to return to Disney Springs to get part of Walt Disney World Resort ready for Disney Springs reopening on May 20th.

Clinton shared that there is a “mixed bag of emotions” about returning to work. Ultimately there are concerns about infection and also about “being able to pay rent.”

Starting on May 20th, only sub-contracted shops will be opening in Disney Springs. A week later, Disney retail shops, including World of Disney and Disney restaurants will be opening again at Disney Springs.

As Disney Springs begins to reopens, Disney is focusing on the safety of both guests and Cast Members. Both guests and employees will be required to wear masks. Disney will be giving its employees three washable masks. Guests will get their temperatures checked when they arrive at Disney Springs. Plexiglass dividers have also been installed at registers. Guests will also be required to slide their own credit cards and not be handled by employees. Custodians will also be retrained to ensure cleanliness in high-touch areas.

At this point, when the rest of Walt Disney World Resort will be opening is unknown. Currently, only Shanghai Disneyland has reopened since Disney Parks closed globally due to coronavirus. DAPS MAGIC will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they become available.
