Disney is reportedly working on a sequel to Disney’s live-action Aladdin. This comes after the first was incredibly successful in 2019. It was one of Disney’s billion dollar movies in 2019.
Variety is reporting that Disney has brought in writers John Gatins and Andrea Berloff to pen a new story for this sequel. While the original animated Aladdin did have two sequels that went straight to video, this new movie will be a new story instead. This movie will also be heading for a theatrical release also.
Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are returning as producers for this sequel through their Rideback banner. Ryan Helprin will be executive producing.
At this time it isn’t known who of the original cast and crew will be returning. It is hoped that the principles will be returning to reprise their roles. This would include Will Smith, Mena Massoud, and also Naomi Scott. No offers will be made before a story and script is set though. It isn’t known if Guy Ritchie will be returning to direct or not either.
At this point there is no timeline known for this film. All that is known is that Disney is said to be working on this new original sequel to the 2019 live-action film.
