Classic Space Mountain Returning to Disneyland as Hyperspace Mountain Departs

Hyperspace Mountain will soon be departing back to a galaxy far, far away at the Disneyland Resort. With its departure, Tomorrowland will bring back the classic version of Space Mountain. This departure will be happening on January 7, 2020, with the classic version of the attraction returning a few days later.

Hyperspace Mountain first appeared at the Disneyland Resort for the Season of the Force in 2015. This was a celebration of all that is Star Wars that took over the land that year. Since then, it has returned for limited runs around the May the 4th Star Wars celebrations. This year, the popularity of the overlay led to its limited run continuing on through the year.

This overlay of the attraction puts guests right in the middle of a battle between the Rebellion and the Empire. Guests are given a mission by Admiral Ackbar to go on a reconnaissance mission. However, things don’t go as expected as the mission turns out to be a trap with Star Destroyers and Tie Fighters waiting. The ensuing battle puts guests right in the middle of an X-Wing squadron fighting the Empire.
