Today Tale of The Lion King officially began its run at the Disneyland Resort ahead of the release of Jon Favreau’s retelling of The Lion King on July 19th.
The show is an all original musical retelling of The Lion King. It is led by a narrator named Mwongozo, which is Swahili for “guide.” Mwongozo is joined by a troupe of 18 other dancers, storytellers, and drummers. They are known as the Storytellers of the Pride Lands. In this version of The Lion King, the story is told in a contemporary story-theater style which incorporates language, song, and dance in its storytelling.
“The approach that we’ve taken with ‘Tale of the Lion King’ is that this is a story that was passed on from generation to generation, and now it’s come here to Disney California Adventure park,” said Susana Tubert, Creative Director, Disney Parks Live Entertainment. “The Storytellers of the Pride Lands have come to share this ancestral story of how a cub became a king.”
As guests experience this musical retelling of this classic story, they will find themselves moved by the music and even singing along. Some little guests will even get to be a part of the show! Tale of The Lion King will be performed multiple times a day during its limited run this summer at the Disneyland Resort. A closing date has not been announced as of yet. The soft opening of the show proved to be fairly popular. It would come as no surprise if it quickly becomes a fan favorite.
