Doctor Who and The Crown fans who also happen to love Star Wars have reasons to rejoice. Matt Smith is joining the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX. The news came via Variety which reported that Smith’s role will be significant.
This news comes from sources who tipped off Variety on this casting news. They did not, however, say which side Smith will be aligning with. It is possible he could be joining the First Order or the Resistance/Rebellion. He is already quite popular in geek communities. His geek stature was secured most notably after appearing on Doctor Who as the Eleventh Doctor. This will only up his geek standing.
Matt Smith will be joining a cast that is already quite exciting and dynamic for Star Wars: Episode IX. He will be joining Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver, along with Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, Dominic Monaghan, and Naomi Ackie. Billy Dee Williams is returning as Lando Calrissian, and Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa. Mark Hamill will return as Luke Skywalker and Anthony Daniels as C-3P0. J.J. Abrams is returning to helm this film after directing Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
