DAPs Magic Disney News – by Mr. DAPs
It’s time to play the music! … the music to the soundtrack to Disney The Muppets, in theaters on November 23, 2011. The soundtrack to The Muppets is a 30 track album with both music and brief sound clips. This soundtrack includes some classics from the old The Muppet Show along with a few new ones by Bret McKenzie of Flight of the Concords fame.
The album begins with the theme to The Muppet Show. While there are a few things different from the original The Muppet Show recording, the average listener who isn’t a huge Muppet fan isn’t going to realize that anything is different. Hearing the music get started I immediately got the impression that they had got it right with this soundtrack. A few minutes later I was hearing an original song by Bret McKenzie from The Muppets and I knew my impressions were indeed accurate.
Life’s a Happy Song is the first original song found on The Muppets soundtrack. It features Jason Segal, Walter, and Amy Adams singing about their life. Hearing this for the first time I knew I was in for something special. In fact, any lingering doubts I had about liking this movie/soundtrack were erased when I heard this song. I could give you all the musical things they did right but really, you don’t care about that. What you will be happy to know is that IT FEELS RIGHT!
The Muppets have always had music that is unique as the characters that make up this happy family. As the soundtrack continues, the unique music shines through clearly. It covers many different types and styles of music throughout the album that spans the many different decades that The Muppets have been entertaining. I think my favorite new original song is Pictures in My Head, a beautiful song sung by Kermit the Frog. I was actually really surprised when I first heard this song at how much it moved me. It really is a beautiful song.
After years of The Muppets being on the second tier of entertainment priorities for the Walt Disney Company, it is nice to see that they can still shine in 2011 as they did in 1979 when they first appeared on the silver screen. I could pick just about any song from this soundtrack and have something good to say about it but I’ll leave that for you to do in the comments section! The Muppets soundtrack* is one to definitely get for your collection.
