On this day in 2011, the Marvel Studios film ‘Thor’ was released in theaters by Paramount Pictures. The fourth film in Phase One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ‘Thor’ introduces the warrior god of Asgard and future Avenger. After his arrogance and carelessness reignites a war, Thor is banished to Earth where he must battle his brother Loki and prove himself worthy. Initial plans for the film started as early as 1991, but the project struggled to find a director until Sir Kenneth Branagh took the reins in 2008.
