On this day in 2011, ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ was released widely. It was the fifth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and part of Phase One. Steve Rogers, strong of heart but not of body, is selected to receive Super Soldier serum during WWII. His super hero transformation sets him on a path to stop the Red Skull from using the Tesseract for world domination. Paramount Pictures was set to finance the film before Marvel Studios received a $525 million investment from Merrill Lynch that allowed them to make ten MCU films.
