Welcome to Geeks Corner. I'm Mr. Daps.
0:19
>> I'm Katie.
0:20
>> And we're so excited to be back. But did
0:22
you know that the first Princess Cruis's
0:25
voyage was in 1965?
0:28
And the very first Disney Cruise Line
0:30
voyage was in 1998.
0:33
>> I knew the second part.
0:35
>> There you go.
0:36
>> Uh, what year did The Loveboat premiere?
0:40
>> I don't know. Look up that one.
0:42
>> Could someone in the comments tell me
0:44
when did the Loveboat premiere? I would
0:47
like to know. Thank you so much.
0:48
>> There you go. All right. What should
0:50
people do, Katie? Uh, well, now that I
0:51
have my voice back, you you should uh go
0:55
to the chat, share what year you're The
0:57
Love Boat premiered because I'm now just
0:59
very curious and it's going to haunt me.
1:01
Um,
1:03
>> and then uh you should subscribe
1:04
wherever you're watching and then go to
1:06
dapshq.com.
1:08
There's a post show to this one. Um,
1:10
which is super fun. There was also like
1:12
a lot of trip highlights and there was a
1:14
lot of really cool stuff going on there.
1:15
So, I would say
1:18
>> there was and it hasn't happened yet.
1:20
No, there was cool stuff happening there
1:21
when we were on vacation.
1:23
>> Oh, okay. I got you now. Yes.
1:24
>> Yeah. Like there is one tonight and
1:27
there was cool stuff happening while we
1:28
were on
1:29
>> vacation. I was combining Daps After
1:31
Dark and Daps HQ in my head.
1:33
>> That's valid.
1:34
>> Yeah. Like [clears throat] I kind of
1:35
went and
1:37
>> Daps After Dark is the show on
1:39
DapsHQ.com.
1:40
>> There we go. There we go. It's the after
1:42
show.
1:42
>> The after show.
1:43
>> You know, everybody needs an after show.
1:45
Uh because just the show is is like
1:47
twothirds of the game. It's not.
1:49
>> I don't know. All right. Also, if you
1:51
haven't done it yet, we'd love to have
1:53
you join us for Chalkwalk this summer on
1:55
August 2nd, bright and early in the
1:56
morning. We're going to have a blast. We
1:58
I saw we have new uh team member this
2:01
week, Jessica joined us again. I think
2:03
this is her third or fourth year in a
2:04
row, which we always have a blast.
2:06
Walking together, seeing the characters,
2:08
making friends, new and old, being
2:10
goofy, wearing hats. We're usually
2:13
pretty. most importantly making a
2:15
difference for the children of Orange
2:17
County through Ray Children's Hospital.
2:19
Ray's Children Health of Orange County.
2:21
I'll get that right eventually, but you
2:23
can do that by going to
2:24
chalkwalk.org/dapsmagic.
2:26
You can not even show up. Like you can
2:28
be on the team at they call a sleeping
2:30
bear. Support the team. Be a part of the
2:33
team. Don't wake up early. Who knows?
2:36
Whatever it is. And uh and you can
2:38
support that way. Or you can just
2:39
support by sharing. There's so many
2:41
different ways.
2:42
>> There's a lot of options. But it looks
2:43
like The Love Boat premiered on
2:45
September 24th, 1977,
2:48
if I'm reading that correctly. So, 12
2:51
years after it came. I would be curious
2:53
>> like what
2:54
>> how many ships came before.
2:56
>> Yeah. Like what version of the Love Boat
2:59
were we getting for that? But
3:00
>> go to dapshq.com and we may be talking
3:03
[laughter] we may
3:04
>> this may continue.
3:05
>> We may be discussing the
3:07
>> we go. We've got two people saying it's
3:08
September 24th. So, it has to be true
3:11
because uh you know the internet
3:12
wouldn't steer us wrong.
3:13
>> No, never. Never. Especially in this day
3:16
and age, we also have one other fun
3:18
thing before we get into the main topic
3:20
of tonight, which does have to do about
3:22
ships and cruises and all of that fun
3:25
stuff. But before we get into that, we
3:28
have a returning activity on DAP's Magic
3:32
or an adventure if you want to call it
3:34
that. I don't know whatever it is. But
3:36
we have brought back caption of the
3:38
week. Part of this is because my brother
3:41
keeps asking me to and part of it
3:43
because it's kind of fun. But uh anyway,
3:46
it's more fun the more captions we get.
3:48
And so this is where we need you to get
3:49
creative. We will have the link in the
3:51
in the show notes. But
3:53
>> you go this week and you will see maybe
3:56
there we go. This picture.
3:58
>> This is fun.
3:59
>> And this picture is this week's caption
4:01
of the week. The way it works is you go
4:03
to the page that has this picture on it
4:05
and you will notice that where the
4:07
caption will end up being for this
4:08
picture is still blank.
4:11
>> Your job, your mission if you choose to
4:14
take it is to go down to the comments
4:16
and leave what you think is the most
4:18
amusing, funny, whatever off-the-wall
4:21
comment you can think of for this photo.
4:24
And we do it week after week and it's a
4:26
lot of fun. And then as they build, you
4:28
can go through and enjoy the random
4:30
captions through the weeks.
4:32
>> But this one, I think, has a lot of
4:34
potential.
4:34
>> It does. Yeah.
4:35
>> There's so many things that could be
4:37
said right now. There's a little bit of
4:38
indignation, amused indignation coming
4:41
from Leia. Han looks very um amused by
4:44
the whole thing. His fingers not being
4:47
pointed at him, it looks like. And and
4:49
Luke's just
4:51
>> Luke looks serious. Like
4:52
>> he does.
4:53
>> I I I don't know. Like there's so many
4:55
captions that could be made for this.
4:56
>> If you just wanted to go to Toshi
4:57
station and pick up some power
4:58
converters.
4:58
>> Yep. And years later it's if you gotten
5:01
the power converters, the Millennium
5:02
Falcon would work.
5:05
There there could be one. U anyway you
5:07
can head on over to dapsmagic.com and
5:09
search for caption of the week and
5:10
you'll find it. We'll probably have a
5:11
link to it at some point as well. We
5:13
will have a link in the show notes so uh
5:16
you can you can get it that way after
5:17
the show as well. Right.
5:19
>> Exactly.
5:20
>> There you go. Uh, did you have a caption
5:22
that you just thought of as you're
5:23
looking at it?
5:23
>> No, I' I've had a caption in my head.
5:25
>> Oh, you're saving it.
5:26
>> Yeah. I'm not gonna tell you.
5:28
>> Okay.
5:29
>> I am going to go to dabsmagic.com. I'm
5:31
going to find the caption of the week
5:32
and I'm going to comment. Okay. I know
5:35
how games work. I'm really good at
5:36
games. And those are duels.
5:38
>> And the more we get, the more fun it is.
5:40
So, uh, head on over and do that. All
5:43
right. It has been a very busy couple of
5:46
months for us. And you know, things
5:49
things just get busier and busier. And
5:51
so, we are still covering,
5:53
>> you'll see that there's articles still
5:54
going up about our Disney cruise a
5:56
couple months ago on the Disney Wonder.
5:57
And now we just got off the Star
5:59
Princess, which was also very fun. And
6:01
so, it made me think this morning that
6:03
maybe we should do things a little bit
6:05
different for Geeks Corner this week
6:06
rather than going through all of the
6:08
week's news, which there's tons of
6:09
Taylor Swift, Conan O'Brien,
6:13
Halloween time. Guys, I could be talking
6:15
about Taylor Swift and Halloween right
6:16
now.
6:16
>> Like, in about a week, you can you can
6:18
purchase your OogieOogie tickets, but
6:21
OogieOogie Bash, I should say.
6:22
>> There are two things about me, and that
6:24
is I love Taylor Swift, and I love
6:26
Halloween.
6:26
>> Mhm. Do you want to do you want to talk
6:28
very briefly about what you thought of
6:30
Taylor Swift at the uh
6:32
>> Taylor Swift is Randy Newman was the
6:33
most magical thing on the face of the
6:34
planet. I think one I think Randy Newman
6:38
is a gem that should be protected at all
6:40
costs. I don't know how he still sounds
6:41
exactly the same doing You've Got a
6:42
Friend in Me 30 years later
6:43
>> and so charming.
6:44
>> So delightfully charming. Um
6:48
>> I also really loved that uh Taylor and
6:50
Randy just seemed like they were having
6:51
a lot of fun together. Like when she
6:53
said, "Some other folks might be a
6:54
little bit smarter than I am." And he
6:56
goes, "No one's smarter than you,
6:57
Taylor."
6:58
>> Adorable.
6:59
>> Also partially true.
7:01
>> I mean, yeah. Also, Taylor getting
7:03
gifted with a Toy Story 2 like Jesse
7:05
doll. Like a Toy Story. Yeah. Also her
7:08
getting her VHS signed. Um, amazing. I
7:11
will talk more about this again, maybe
7:13
on DAPS HQ. I might be too busy talking
7:15
about the Love Boat. Who's to say?
7:17
>> Who knows?
7:18
>> Um, I'm also really I'm not jet-lagged
7:21
cuz we never ch Well, we changed time
7:22
zones once. I'm not jet-lagged, but I am
7:26
travel lagged, so I'm crazy.
7:29
>> Okay. [laughter]
7:31
>> Okay.
7:32
>> Anyway. Yeah.
7:32
>> All right. Well, we're gonna go into
7:34
talking about cruise ships, specifically
7:36
rating cruise ships against each other
7:39
to find out which cruise ship, an old
7:42
one or a new one, will win in this new
7:44
thing that we are going to call a tale
7:46
of two ships.
7:49
If it works,
7:54
[music]
8:07
That is right. It is a tale of two
8:09
ships. We even have a graphic to keep
8:13
our our scores.
8:14
>> That was amazing.
8:15
>> Um, we only have the best
8:18
>> animations.
8:19
Here at Geeks Corner, some things never
8:22
change. I think we're using the exact
8:23
same graphics that we used uh 15, 16
8:26
years ago, however long ago we we
8:28
started using. accessible now.
8:30
>> But now we can we can actually write on
8:33
the graphics and do cool things like
8:36
write high or um low.
8:40
>> Oh,
8:41
>> I don't know. Uh these are different
8:43
contexts and they don't actually work
8:45
together. [laughter] But um anyway,
8:46
we're going to go through several
8:48
different categories
8:50
that relate to cruise ships.
8:52
Specifically, in this case, the Disney
8:55
Wonder and the Star Princess. And I
8:57
chose these two cruise ships because
8:59
they're the two most recent that we've
9:01
been on.
9:02
>> Uh a little bit about these two ships.
9:05
The uh Disney Wonder
9:07
>> Mhm.
9:08
>> one of the oldest ships in the Disney
9:11
Cruise Line.
9:12
>> Correct.
9:12
>> Uh what is it? 25 years old now. 24
9:15
years old. 25
9:16
>> 99
9:17
>> 20. Yeah.
9:18
>> Seven.
9:19
>> 20. So old. Uh
9:22
>> so old.
9:23
>> For a ship. Yes.
9:23
>> Yes. For a ship.
9:24
>> I can't do math. But uh and then we've
9:26
got the the Star Princess which uh made
9:30
its debut in 2025. So it is
9:33
>> the newest.
9:34
>> And how old?
9:35
>> Uh less than a year old.
9:37
>> Less than a year old. So you have a
9:39
classic Disney wonder ship that's that's
9:42
leaning into um classic nautical theme
9:46
and vibes with Disney magic. And then
9:49
you have the Star Princess which is
9:50
brand new and leads leans into modern
9:57
simplicity.
9:58
>> Yeah,
9:58
>> I think that's the way I would put it.
10:00
Um it's it's very simple and very modern
10:03
and um and kind of now that I'm saying
10:08
it, what is that uh what's the the hotel
10:12
uh line that like everybody's like you
10:15
always go to the same one? Uh, like
10:18
President Obama likes it because he
10:19
knows he's getting the same thing every
10:21
time.
10:22
>> I don't [clears throat]
10:23
>> It's not Hyatt. Is it Hyatt?
10:24
>> Is it Hyatt? Is it Hyatt? Is it a
10:26
Marriott?
10:27
>> I don't know.
10:28
>> I don't know. Anyway, it kind of reminds
10:29
me of that now that I'm thinking about
10:31
this. Um, but so you've got old versus
10:34
new, classic versus modern, and big
10:38
versus small. And And it's not the
10:40
biggest ship in the world. It's not like
10:42
one of those massive Royal Caribbean
10:43
ships or that Disney Adventure ship.
10:46
It's it's
10:47
>> but it is the biggest that goes up the
10:49
inside passage currently
10:51
>> to Alaska. And the uh Disney Wonder is
10:54
on the smaller side of those things. So,
10:56
now that we've explained all of that,
10:58
>> time to get into our first category,
11:01
>> okay?
11:01
>> Which is atmosphere and vibe.
11:04
>> Okay? And what I mean by atmosphere and
11:06
vibe is we're going to think about what
11:09
is the ship like? What's the decor?
11:11
What's the what's the um
11:15
what is the how do we feel about when
11:18
we're on the ship. We're not going to
11:20
get into the rooms yet,
11:21
>> the stateaterooms, but we are going to
11:23
get into the bigger picture of the ship
11:25
of what its atmosphere is and what its
11:28
vibe is. And we kind of just just uh
11:31
delineated what each one was. you know,
11:33
classic nautical Disney modern simple
11:36
hotel.
11:37
>> Um,
11:39
>> okay.
11:40
>> What did you think of uh let's start
11:42
with Disney Wonder. What did you think
11:43
of the atmosphere and vibe of the Disney
11:45
Wonder?
11:46
>> I think it's a very well-defined
11:47
atmosphere because there is an
11:49
expectation at some level when you are
11:52
getting on a Disney cruise, you 100%
11:54
know what you are signing up for. at at
11:56
the very least, you know, um I've got a
11:59
a Mickey Mouse printed suitcase and I've
12:02
got mini ears on my head and like I know
12:04
the energy that I expect to see.
12:07
>> Um and I think Disney does that
12:09
beautifully. I think Princess to some
12:11
realm gets to have a clean slate because
12:14
most people their association with
12:16
princess is the love boat. Um and then
12:18
you're automatically like, "Wow, this is
12:19
so much bigger than the Loveboat." Um,
12:22
yeah,
12:23
>> even even the Disney [laughter] Wonder
12:24
is bigger than the the Love Boat.
12:26
>> Yeah. Um, and there's also some fun nods
12:29
of like, oh, we have reintroduced this
12:32
ship name that like Island Princess and
12:34
Coral Princess are in the original
12:35
series and those are ships that are
12:37
sailing now. Um, I will say personally,
12:41
is that where we're at now? Am I allowed
12:43
to?
12:43
>> Um, sure. Which one would you give your
12:46
point to?
12:46
>> I would give it to the Disney Wonder.
12:48
>> Okay. So, you give and then I'm going to
12:49
do the same thing in a minute. Okay,
12:51
he's gonna do the same thing in a
12:52
minute.
12:52
>> All right. Well, I I agree with you
12:54
completely. Stepping aboard the Disney
12:55
Wonder is really like stepping into a
12:59
Disney resort at sea. Like, I was
13:01
thinking about it as I was coming up
13:04
with the categories today. And when you
13:07
step into the Disney Wonder, it's it's
13:09
kind of like going into a moderate or
13:12
deluxe hotel at Walt Disney World,
13:14
depending on which one you pick. Like,
13:16
you could you could make arguments for
13:17
either. And um you have that Disney
13:21
magic
13:23
just completely surrounding you as you
13:26
walk onto the ship. Uh this this you
13:30
know there's Mickey and Minnie, there's
13:32
Disney music, there's um lots of nods to
13:35
the characters in the stories throughout
13:37
the ship and [snorts]
13:40
>> and so the vibe is kind of uh happy and
13:42
whimsical and relaxed and very very
13:46
family friendly. Mhm.
13:47
>> Then I hop on over to the Star Princess.
13:49
And Star Princess is very nice. It's
13:51
very clean. It's very um polished, I
13:54
think, is probably a good word to put
13:55
for it.
13:56
>> And uh I wouldn't say that it's defined
14:00
>> by any one. Like if I were to be like,
14:02
"Oh, yeah. This is this is the Disney or
14:05
the um
14:07
the the Star Princess like Majestic
14:09
Princess." I could give you a definition
14:11
for it.
14:11
>> Same.
14:12
>> Star Princess is like, "Well, it's
14:14
nice."
14:15
>> Yeah. It's very like everything's nice.
14:17
But as I was walking around the
14:19
hallways, the artwork,
14:20
>> I guess you could say, is travels around
14:22
the world,
14:23
>> but you know, it was it was kind of
14:26
random and and it like some points it
14:30
was very clear what it was and other
14:32
points it was very abstract and so it
14:34
was a little disjointed in that regard.
14:36
And um and then um I would also say for
14:41
both of them just as a to I guess it's
14:45
leveling this playing field on this this
14:47
uh category. Both of them have some
14:50
idiosyncrasies for walking around
14:52
[laughter]
14:52
like you have to go to a certain deck to
14:54
get across. You have to go, you know, if
14:56
you want to go to the front of the boat,
14:57
you have to you have to go here. If you
14:59
want to go up to the top deck, you have
15:01
to go there. If you want certain
15:02
elevator, whatever. Um, both of them
15:04
have their idiosyncrasies with that
15:06
regard.
15:06
>> Absolutely.
15:07
>> They're both charming in a way. They're
15:09
also at times if you go the wrong way
15:10
can be frustrating or just not a lot of
15:13
room because you're going down a
15:15
stateateroom hallway or something. And
15:17
uh especially with the Star Princess,
15:19
sometimes that's the only way to get
15:21
places it seemed, was to go stateways.
15:24
Um
15:25
>> yeah.
15:26
>> Uh that's I had one other thought I was
15:28
going to say with all of that too. Um
15:32
the the vibe on the uh wonder is a
15:36
little bit more intimate. The vibe on
15:38
the uh the princess star princess is a
15:41
little bit more spread out. Not a ton
15:43
more, but there is a little bit more
15:45
room um in some regards. And so I'm
15:48
going to give my point to the Disney
15:50
Wonder for this one as well.
15:52
>> And um it now has two points. Look at
15:55
this. Whoever thought we could do this
15:58
>> is actually amazing. I I feel like
15:59
Bailey's jaw must be on the floor right
16:01
now cuz she's watched since day one. I
16:03
know.
16:03
>> And never have we ever gotten something
16:05
that I feel like is this technologically
16:08
advanced that that's working this long.
16:10
Um, all right. Next one is the culinary
16:13
showdown. This is the food. This is the
16:15
beverage. This is the
16:17
>> This is the dining experience
16:21
that we had on the ship focused solely
16:24
on the food.
16:27
Um
16:28
because we're gonna I think I'm going to
16:30
kind of throw in service somewhere else,
16:32
but um Okay.
16:33
>> Because I think that all comes that's
16:34
going to come down to the bottom line.
16:35
>> Sure.
16:36
>> But uh so what would you say about food
16:38
for each of these ships?
16:40
>> Easy. So Disney has uh what they call
16:44
rotational dining. So they have themed
16:46
dining rooms instead of a main dining
16:48
room,
16:48
>> which I loved.
16:49
>> Um and then you kind of move around
16:51
throughout your journey. So we had four
16:53
nights. Um, we were able to do three uh
16:57
of the rotational dining. We would have
16:59
repeated Animators Palette, but so we
17:00
did Palo that night, which is a
17:02
specialty dining. Um, I thought the
17:04
rotational dining was super fun. There
17:07
was something for everybody, it seemed.
17:09
Um, whether you wanted Mickey Mouse or
17:11
you wanted um like entertainment while
17:14
you're eating or um you just wanted a
17:16
more chill, relaxed vibe, that was
17:19
Triton's. Um, and then Paulo was a
17:22
lovely, lovely dinner. We had excellent
17:24
service. The food was incredible and it
17:27
felt like a fine dining, but Paulo was
17:30
the only of that caliber offered on the
17:33
Disney Wonder. Um, on Star Princess,
17:37
there were many specialty restaurants to
17:40
the point where I don't think I could
17:41
name all of them. Um, there were some
17:44
lovely main dining rooms. Uh, oh, also
17:47
buffet on Disney Cruise Line was great.
17:49
I really liked it. I thought it was one
17:50
of the better buffets. Um, Star Princess
17:54
had a few main dining rooms um that we
17:56
did not step foot in. I'm so sorry I
17:57
can't speak to that. Um, the buffet was
18:00
great. Um, the buffet was actually a
18:03
more consistent buffet that I've seen
18:05
cuz I was like, "Oh, I know if I go to
18:06
this area going to be chips and nacho
18:10
cheese as where
18:12
>> sometimes things move."
18:13
>> Um, but the specialty dining was
18:16
phenomenal. Um it was like, "Oh, whether
18:19
you want to have sushi or steak or um
18:23
they had a tanyaki or whatever strikes
18:27
>> the Italian
18:28
>> Yeah. Whatever strikes your fancy."
18:30
>> Those were two different restaurants, by
18:31
the way. [laughter]
18:32
>> Those were two different restaurants.
18:34
>> Steak, you know, whatever.
18:35
>> Or a Magic Castle dining experience that
18:38
>> looked very fancy from what we could
18:40
see. Um, all of that was so incredible
18:45
and I feel like I walked away
18:48
being blown out of the water by the food
18:50
and the taste at Star Princess. So, I'm
18:53
going to give my point to the Star
18:55
Princess.
18:55
>> Okay, there you go. Uh, Disney Wonder
18:58
and Star Princess definitely do have
19:00
different options. Part of this is
19:02
because of the size of the ships,
19:04
>> whereas Disney Wonder is probably what,
19:06
a third of the size, maybe half of the
19:08
size of It's probably more. or it just
19:10
feels like it's less um when you're
19:12
sailing because we did pass both the
19:13
Wonder and the Magic up in uh in Alaska,
19:16
but it it does feel significantly
19:18
smaller. And
19:20
>> so it's no surprise that there would be
19:22
fewer dining options aboard the Disney
19:24
Wonder. Um, that being said,
19:29
plate for plate, table for table, all of
19:32
that,
19:33
>> not taking into account the fact that
19:35
you get entertainment, fantastic
19:37
service, because I will say Disney
19:39
Wonder
19:40
>> wins at the service.
19:42
>> Yes.
19:42
>> For every meal, like the the magic of
19:44
Disney magic won everywhere. Mhm.
19:46
>> Um, I do think bite to bite I would
19:51
choose Star Princess in in generally
19:54
over the Disney Wonder.
19:56
>> Um, and and that's that's kind of a
19:58
crazy thing to say, but um
20:02
>> it it
20:04
>> it's I I'm going by its lowest and its
20:08
highest and trying to like
20:10
>> balance the two out. And they're not
20:11
that they're far apart either. Um, but
20:15
the
20:16
the least best bite I had on each ship,
20:20
if I were to choose one of those, it
20:22
edges out for the Star Princess being
20:25
slightly better, whereas the best bite
20:27
wasn't that significantly higher.
20:29
>> I was like, you just said so many double
20:30
negatives. I was like, wait, what was
20:32
your point going?
20:32
>> It's literally like, where is which one
20:35
edged ahead in the flavors that I would
20:36
want to eat again over and over and over
20:38
again? And um while Paulo might have
20:42
edged out if there were fewer options on
20:44
the dis on the Star Princess,
20:47
>> Paulo is kind of the thing.
20:49
>> Yeah.
20:50
>> And Star Princess I could pick a handful
20:53
of different things that would be the
20:54
thing that I would be very happy for for
20:57
you know a birthday dinner or whatever
20:59
which is what we did. And um and then
21:02
just having done print like so we went
21:05
to the catch by Rudy on Star Princess
21:08
you know
21:09
>> you know exactly what you're getting
21:11
from the catch by Rudy same with with
21:13
the was it crown grill and and all of
21:16
these other ones and the same can be
21:17
said for Paulo and
21:19
>> Tiana's an animator's palette what all
21:21
these things and so using that I'm able
21:23
to think okay
21:25
>> main dining on Star Princess is going to
21:28
be the same as it was on Majestic
21:29
Princess like it's going to be fine.
21:31
It's going to be good. It'll be great.
21:33
Um I think it's a step above Disney
21:36
Wonders or Disney in general from what
21:38
we've experienced. So I'm going to give
21:40
one point to Star Princess as well.
21:41
>> Wow.
21:43
>> You didn't think so, did you?
21:44
>> I did.
21:44
>> Oh, okay. Um I I did think like
21:48
>> it just seemed Here's the other thing
21:50
with this that that we should also be
21:52
saying. Mhm.
21:54
>> The food on Star Princess
21:58
is probably a little bit more varied and
22:03
specialized, whereas the food on the
22:05
Disney Wonder was definitely other than
22:07
Paulo was definitely aiming at a wider
22:10
audience. Like we're trying to keep
22:11
families happy. Yes.
22:12
>> And there was a lot of food on Star
22:14
Princess that is not going to
22:15
necessarily keep young families happy.
22:17
Yes. So that should be acknowledged as
22:20
well. All right. Next category,
22:21
entertainment and night life. There is
22:24
plenty on both.
22:26
>> What did you think?
22:27
>> So,
22:29
this to me is difficult because um
22:32
Disney has some really big entertainment
22:35
nightly almost nightly I think depending
22:37
on your sailings. Um big entertainment,
22:41
big stage shows, big theatrical
22:43
productions. Um, again, things you know
22:47
what you are getting into with the
22:48
expectation of like, oh, I'm going to
22:50
see Frozen. Um, I know what Frozen is. I
22:53
know what to expect. Disney blows me out
22:55
of the water. Um, I will say for stage
22:59
show, we're going to go stage show for
23:00
stage show. Uh, we did not go to stage
23:05
shows on Princess because when we would
23:07
hear the description, we'd go, "Oh,
23:10
>> no thank you." There's another reason
23:13
though too is the stage I think on the
23:16
Star Princess could fit fewer people or
23:19
the theater in the Star Princess could
23:21
fit fewer people
23:22
>> than the one on Disney Wonder which when
23:25
you think of the size of the ship
23:28
>> that's kind of a weird thing and I would
23:31
love to I need to look up what the
23:32
actual numbers were
23:34
>> but it felt like the Walt Disney Theater
23:38
fit probably double the amount of people
23:40
as the uh whatever the theater was.
23:44
>> I do think that a lot of Disney is
23:48
your schedule is built around the
23:50
entertainment. So like dining times it's
23:53
like oh there's a first there's a first
23:56
dining so you can go to the second
23:57
entertainment performance and there is a
23:59
second dining so you can go to the first
24:00
enter also.
24:02
>> Uh yes, but it's not as
24:04
>> it wasn't a focal point this
24:06
>> rigid. Um, and in Disney, it's almost as
24:09
if it's like an expectation that it's
24:10
like, "Oh, yeah. These are things that
24:12
people want to do. They have a
24:14
concession stand outside of the theater
24:16
to be like, "Oh, buy your popcorn and
24:18
your candy." Like, it's entertainment is
24:20
at the root. Um, and while I think the
24:26
staffled
24:28
entertainment was better on Princess, so
24:31
like think the the activities where they
24:33
get guests involved, um, the panels or
24:36
the game shows or whatever, I think
24:38
those were better on Princess. But if
24:40
I'm going to go overall beat forbe
24:41
entertainment, I am going to go give it
24:43
to Disney.
24:44
>> Um, to me, it's no question. It's
24:46
obviously Disney. Uh Disney, the quality
24:48
was better, the sound was better, the
24:50
music was better, the production value
24:52
was better, the entertainers,
24:54
what we saw was better. Um like the best
24:58
entertainment on Princess was average on
25:01
Disney Wonder. The exception I will say
25:04
was the adult entertainment which wasn't
25:07
like it wasn't anything too crazy but it
25:11
was a little bit more risque and funny
25:13
and it what you would expect from that
25:16
and it could be we just had a different
25:17
experience on that but that would be the
25:19
only caveat I give to Star Princess is
25:21
like but um the I'm going back to size
25:27
again is you think of the the atrium and
25:31
the Disney
25:32
really wasn't that much different in
25:34
size than the atrium in the Star
25:37
Princess when you think like it
25:40
>> I would disagree with that.
25:42
>> I would say it's at least twice the
25:43
size.
25:44
>> Not when you think of how many people it
25:46
can fit like you're thinking of the area
25:48
outside, but for viewing area of
25:50
underneath the way they set it up with
25:52
the chairs and the angles, if you
25:54
weren't in the front row standing or the
25:56
two rows sitting, you were out of luck.
25:59
>> And so I I would be curious
26:01
how many people can actually watch. Um,
26:04
I will also say they had an amazing LED
26:06
wall in their atrium on the and that was
26:09
cool and they use that in a wonderful
26:10
way.
26:11
>> I was in love with that wall.
26:12
>> Uh, you can't compare with Disney for
26:14
for
26:15
>> entertainment. Like they just knock him
26:17
out of the water. And it's not saying
26:18
that anything on Star Princess was bad.
26:20
It just, you know, you have Katie Bell
26:23
on Disney Wonder and you have um I
26:25
forgot his name already. Uh on and he
26:29
was fine, but there wasn't anything
26:31
>> Ross.
26:32
>> Yeah, there wasn't anything that um
26:34
really jumped out at me as as
26:36
exceptional in that regard. And it it
26:38
wasn't bad. I'm saying it just
26:39
>> Yes.
26:40
>> It wasn't that exceptional entertainment
26:42
you expect from Disney. All right.
26:44
Stateoom Comfort.
26:46
Brand new ship Star Princess 20. We say
26:50
seven 28 years 27 year old
26:53
>> room on the Disney Wonder.
26:55
>> Go.
26:56
>> This one's rough and I can't If you had
26:58
told me
26:58
>> I'm gonna go first then.
27:00
>> I don't I don't
27:00
>> I wasn't saying it was rough. I'm saying
27:02
okay
27:03
>> had you told me going into it what I
27:04
would have said I would have been
27:05
shocked. Um the star princess
27:08
stateateroom was very small. Um and when
27:11
I say small, I mean that we had to take
27:14
turns going up to the closet because we
27:16
could not fit there at the same time.
27:19
I have to give it to Disney. [laughter]
27:21
And I'm shocked I'm saying that. And
27:23
>> just because we're running short on
27:24
time, I'm going to throw my thoughts in
27:25
as well. Room was small on Star
27:27
Princess. Uh Disney Wonder, the room was
27:29
bigger. It was more homey. Like it had a
27:32
much warmer, comfortable feel. TV much
27:35
better on Star Princess. Kind of what
27:37
you would expect. That was great. Um one
27:39
thing I will say is a me major negative
27:41
on Star Princess was the bridge cam was
27:44
from 1985. I think like it [laughter]
27:46
was it was pixelated and choppy the
27:50
entire trip even when the boat wasn't
27:52
moving like it it just was not good. Um
27:56
>> bathroom the best
27:57
>> bathroom tiny on Star Princess which you
28:00
expect.
28:01
>> Uh Disney Wonder you get the double
28:03
bathroom so it was very doable. And I
28:05
think
28:06
>> I think the one half of the double
28:08
bathroom might have been bigger than the
28:10
entire bathroom on the Star Princess. So
28:12
to me this is a no-brainer. like um the
28:16
one of the oldest ships in the fleet.
28:18
Totally. Like it felt like they just
28:20
crammed too many rooms on Star Princess.
28:23
Like it was it was kind of a major
28:24
disappointment.
28:26
>> Um
28:26
>> we also almost couldn't fit our luggage
28:28
underneath the bed.
28:29
>> I don't know how you would do it with
28:30
more people. Yeah.
28:31
>> Like if you're a family of four, I don't
28:33
know how you'd fit in a a stateateroom
28:35
with And we will have videos of this up.
28:37
I I just decided to save the time. All
28:39
right. Bottom line, bang for your buck.
28:43
This is this is really where it gets
28:44
interesting because they do offer two
28:47
very different value propositions, but I
28:50
would say from this cruise, the value
28:52
proposition of Princess is trying to
28:55
veer more towards what Disney is
28:57
offering
28:58
>> without
28:59
>> like they clearly or it seems from what
29:02
we were watching on on the ship, the the
29:05
entertainment is vibing younger than it
29:07
was previously. the um the clientele was
29:13
much younger than we've previously seen.
29:15
And maybe that's because it's a brand
29:16
new ship. Very possible. Um because
29:18
people do like to go on the brand new
29:19
ships. Um and and the [snorts] the I
29:25
don't know the stylistic this they
29:28
styled it. Yes.
29:29
>> More
29:29
>> towards a younger generation. Um
29:33
whereas Disney is exactly what you
29:36
expect from Disney. And um it's quite a
29:40
bit more.
29:41
>> Mhm.
29:41
>> And it's it's got different packages and
29:43
different offerings, but and we're not
29:45
even getting into destinations on this
29:46
one because they both go to the same
29:48
places. So, it seemed like that didn't
29:49
matter.
29:50
>> But which one for the bottom line would
29:53
you go on again?
29:55
>> Would I uh Okay. Well, I
29:58
>> I mean, I would go on either of them
29:59
again. Yeah. But which one would be the
30:01
one? If you're if you're putting your
30:03
money where your mouth is,
30:05
>> you're gonna sit here and you're gonna
30:06
say, "Katie, look at all the points
30:07
you've put towards the Disney Wonder." I
30:09
am gonna say Star Princess.
30:11
>> Oh, you're gonna say The Princess.
30:12
>> I am because um there is something to me
30:15
that is there is an excellent value in
30:19
my opinion. Um we also didn't get into
30:21
the internet. The internet was also
30:22
rough, but the internet package better
30:24
on Princess. Um there the drink package
30:28
is something that I do value when I'm on
30:30
vacation and I like to have that essence
30:33
of not thinking about money being spent.
30:36
Um the specialty dining being included
30:38
in the Princess Premiere Plus package.
30:41
Also not having to do the whole okay let
30:44
me get the check. Let me think about
30:45
this. That is something that I value
30:48
greatly on vacation and I don't think I
30:50
can overstate that. But we're we're
30:54
stating for specifically this ship
30:56
versus
30:57
>> but for the value for the value paid, I
31:00
would say uh Princess.
31:02
>> Okay.
31:03
>> Yeah.
31:04
>> Um I'm actually going to shock myself
31:07
and I'm going to say the Disney Wonder
31:09
in this case based off though
31:12
>> this week and this week.
31:14
>> Sure.
31:14
>> And that's all I'm basing it on because
31:17
I could see it going either other way.
31:20
But the the thing that really did shock
31:22
me was when I walked out. I gave you
31:25
your point, right? Yeah. Um
31:28
>> when when I thought about like all of
31:30
the things that added up and and
31:35
whatever. Um
31:38
the end of the day, are you comfortable
31:41
in your room?
31:43
>> Not really.
31:44
>> Like I didn't [clears throat] find the
31:45
room comfortable. Um, and it it wasn't
31:49
uncomfortable. It just wasn't like did I
31:51
really want to go sit there?
31:54
Did uh did were there places throughout
31:57
the day that I could just go and sit
31:59
with my computer and get stuff done? Not
32:02
really. So, that's two kind of hard
32:05
things for me when I'm thinking of the
32:06
bottom line of of being a working
32:10
traveler.
32:10
>> Sure. And then um and then at the end of
32:14
it also did I feel good about the money
32:17
spent versus what the value was offered.
32:20
>> I would say when it came to food
32:21
absolutely.
32:23
>> But when it came to the uh the room
32:27
service, the room itself, the service in
32:30
general, the communication was severely
32:32
lacking. The app was garbage. The like
32:36
and I don't usually have that quite
32:40
critical of [clears throat] statements
32:41
to make about things, but
32:43
>> to say it otherwise would not be true.
32:46
>> And and when I looked back, I was like,
32:48
"Wow, we just spent a ton of money
32:51
>> for a real mediocre offering." And we
32:54
could say this is their first year and
32:55
they're still figuring things out. But,
32:57
um, I will be curious to go on an older
32:59
ship again on on Princess to see how
33:02
that's different and what that
33:03
experience is like. Um,
33:05
>> somebody at one of the bars said that
33:06
I'm going to love the ship we're going
33:08
on.
33:08
>> Yes, there you go. So, and I'm looking
33:10
forward to that because frankly, this
33:12
was such a different type of a cruise
33:15
experience than any we've had before.
33:18
And um and so it'll be interesting to
33:21
see. I wouldn't go on this ship again.
33:22
Like I I flat out you couldn't pay me to
33:24
to go on that ship.
33:25
>> I don't know. You could pay me. It's
33:27
fine. [laughter]
33:28
You can pay me.
33:29
>> You could pay me. And but it would have
33:31
to be kind of a with the proviso of
33:33
like, hey, we're going to redeem
33:34
ourselves just because I I really wasn't
33:38
like there was nothing terrible,
33:39
terrible, terrible, but there wasn't
33:41
anything other than the food at, you
33:45
know, uh I'm forgetting the name. Um
33:50
Rudy's
33:51
>> Catch by Rudies.
33:52
>> Catch by Rudy's. Excellent. But
33:54
especially Smalier Noel. But um but like
33:58
and and we had a couple of like
34:00
bartenders that were fantastic, Eggy and
34:02
Pudu. Like I can remember those three
34:05
names from the cruise and um fantastic.
34:08
But like everything else I I was kind of
34:11
like
34:13
>> for what you're offering, the value
34:15
proposition you're offering. I kind of
34:17
think this is where you make the
34:18
argument that you spend a little bit
34:20
more and do Disney and walk away happy.
34:23
And I wasn't unhappy. I just you want to
34:25
you want to have that you want
34:27
Disneyland. You want to feel that that
34:30
whatever. And um and Alaska gives that
34:33
to you either way. Like I would almost
34:36
be curious then of like doing a a royal
34:38
or a
34:39
>> a celebrity or I don't even know what
34:42
>> because we've now only done Princess to
34:43
Alaska.
34:44
>> Yeah. And um but I it was an interesting
34:46
thing because it wasn't exactly what I
34:48
expected at all. But now is the time for
34:51
you to ask us questions if you have any.
34:53
And it is time for
35:01
comments. Comments.
35:04
And my first comment is my buttons are
35:06
not working well tonight. Boy. All
35:08
right. If you have comments, let us know
35:10
in the chat. We will respond to all of
35:12
them as much as we can. Particularly if
35:15
they have to do with tonight's um Hey,
35:18
look. The graphic went away. It worked.
35:21
>> Wow. And it was 7 to three, by the way.
35:23
Disney won. Um, but uh what
35:28
>> I was just smiling at you.
35:29
>> Okay. Um, the interesting thing was is
35:32
even if we both uh voted for Star
35:37
Princess for bottom
35:38
>> for bottom line.
35:39
>> Disney won.
35:40
>> Disney still wins. That's that's an
35:42
interesting thing to me.
35:43
>> It's true.
35:43
>> Um,
35:45
but uh anyway, if you have any comments,
35:48
let us know.
35:49
We will we will respond to them for a
35:51
couple minutes. Uh will there be
35:52
documentaries about the Disney cruise
35:53
one day? There is going to be a
35:55
documentary coming out and it is the
35:57
next uh
35:59
it's a Dwayne Johnson one.
36:01
>> Uh Behind the Attraction.
36:03
>> Behind the attraction. There will be at
36:05
least two episodes on the Disney Cruise
36:07
Line, its history, and the one of the
36:08
newest ships, Disney Destiny, I believe.
36:11
>> And uh that's going to be very fun to
36:13
see. And um I'm actually really looking
36:16
forward to that because I don't think
36:18
enough is um put out there about the
36:21
origins. Like I hope they get into the
36:23
big red boat and all that fun stuff.
36:24
Like yeah, I I think that's
36:26
>> I'm looking forward to that. It's going
36:28
to be great. Um let's scroll up a little
36:30
bit.
36:32
>> Loveboat stuff. There we go. Um
36:37
if The Muppet Show could one day perform
36:38
a show on the Disney Wonder, I would be
36:40
in heaven. I think [laughter] that's all
36:42
we have to say. Um, which celebrity
36:43
would be a guest star and which theme is
36:45
perfect for the show? Can you explain?
36:47
Um,
36:49
>> easy.
36:49
>> Okay, you got it.
36:50
>> Brenda song.
36:52
>> Oh, fun.
36:52
>> Because
36:54
Sweet Life on Deck.
36:56
>> Oh, and that's the theme.
36:58
>> So, you make it like a
36:59
>> I can't go past that's great.
37:00
>> You make it like a Disney uh or the
37:03
That's So, Sweet Life on Deck um where
37:06
they did like the big Disney Channel
37:08
crossover uh and they all went on the
37:10
cruise ship. Um,
37:13
like that's what I'm thinking, but I'm
37:15
thinking specifically Brenda Song
37:16
because she's a lot of fun.
37:18
>> Uh, Bailey says, "Back in the day videos
37:20
were edited." That is true. They were a
37:22
lot of fun. We spent many hours doing
37:25
that. Actually, it's amazing.
37:26
>> They weren't edited. Lightning literally
37:28
just came out of his hands.
37:29
>> Uh, that would be Snap Magic. But the
37:31
the episodes were originally edited.
37:33
>> I know. I was I was talking about how
37:36
somebody's a Sith. Oh, well that was
37:39
>> and lightning came out of his hands and
37:41
you went
37:42
>> Yes, that's true.
37:43
>> That's what I was saying. I was like
37:44
that wasn't edited.
37:45
>> That's true. That happened. Um and we
37:47
captured that on camera and now we all
37:49
know.
37:49
>> Haters will say it's fake. [laughter]
37:52
>> Uh we loved Snap Magic. We might have to
37:54
revisit that at some point because um it
37:58
could be cool. I don't know what it
37:59
would be, but we you know, you never
38:01
know. Things would go. Um dining room on
38:04
the star was very good. Really good, I
38:06
should say. That is good.
38:07
>> Really? Very good.
38:08
>> Yes. And hello, Dabs Magic. Hello back.
38:12
>> Hi.
38:12
>> Yes. Um, all right. Well, I guess that
38:15
is all the time we have for you this
38:16
week. Katie, what should people do?
38:18
>> Well, you should go to dapsmagic.com.

38:37
post show
38:38
>> ish
38:38
>> ish. Who's to say? We don't really tell
38:41
time around here.
38:43
>> This it'll be good. Also, make sure to
38:44
subscribe to our YouTube channel. We
38:46
have a ton of videos coming up,
38:48
including, I believe, some from
38:50
Disneyland Paris. I haven't taken a look
38:52
at them yet, but I believe there might
38:54
be some showing up. Maybe not. Maybe I'm
38:56
just making it up. You never know. But I
38:58
do still have videos from Japan. I have
39:01
video from Disneyland. I have Disney
39:03
from Disney Cruise Line video that will
39:05
still be going up and a couple Princess
39:07
or Star Princess videos that will be
39:09
going up in the coming weeks as well.
39:11
And then we'll be getting into all of
39:12
the uh Disney Celebrates America stuff.
39:14
So, it'll be a lot of fun. But that is
39:17
all the time we have for you this week.
39:18
So, we will see you around the corner.
