On this day in 1986, ‘The Great Mouse Detective’ was released. It was based on the children’s book series ‘Basil of Baker Street’ by Eve Titus and Paul Galdone, with inspiration from Sherlock Holmes. Famous mouse detective Basil and his sidekick Dr. Dawson help young Olivia after her father is kidnapped by Basil’s nemesis, Professor Ratigan. The film was a critical success for Disney Animation and led to the Disney Renaissance. Dawson was a tribute to Nine Old Men animator Eric Larson, as he retired after this film.
